I am still trying to get my head around how a group of people who are not of a specific race or religion can claim to be an ethnic minority along with all the advantages it holds.
I doubt if i decided to by a van and caravan and ship up on council land and generally make my own s
t heap i would be moved ferkin quick and my protestations that i am a traveller would be met with Oh thats all right you are a protected minoriy.
So how did they mage that piece of logic?
A traveller is just that a person who travels.
Otherwise ever splinter group in this country will claim that they are also deserving of such luxeries not afforded to the public . exemption from closing roads and racing nags along them, leaving piles of excreement that other have to clean up at our expense etc etc etc
And as for those who complain about this thread. Have a few days of them living on your doorstep and then come back to us

What is wrong with them that they think it is OK to treat other people's property like their toilet?

They really should have disclosed their personal interest in the matter rather than just doing a poor 'concerned citizen' impression.Though I suspect they wanted their comment seen for various reasons which is why they opened a thread rather than using the reporting mechanism about the specific post that upset them.

how does this just go on and on. How can you break into private property, commit criminal damage and then have the right to stay there, usually committing further damage/fly tipping etc then just leave with no punishment after a few days. why cant some politicians grow a spine. surely it would have to be a vote winner?

I'm gonna give that the benefit of the doubt - it could be a (better) solution to the status quo; fulfilling the council!: obligations/ heading off legal tactics, whilst clawing back a little power to move people on where they're not wanted, whilst moving the joy around geographically so some poor sods don't get it 365. Good luck to them. (The people who signed off that policy I previously commented on can still go die in a fire)

Jeremy Corbyn said he would give them extra protection, and it didn't hurt his campaign at all. If you said you were going to do something about it you would be called a racist.98elise said:

Still don't understand how so many of them are entitled to be categorised as a 'race'. We're not talking about the traditional Romany/Gypsy - if they only refer to themselves as 'Travellers' then surely there can't be any accusation of racism ?

If you said you were going to do something about it you would be called a racist.There's a herd of the tossers that have descended on our local Sainsbury's in the last couple of weeks, now roughly a third of the car park is out of use and the store/customers are getting no end of grief from their stbag kids running feral at all times of the day/night. The Police seem to have a small presence most of the time but as expected are doing pretty much nothing about it.
I thought "parasites" was a pretty fair and accurate description for what it's worth.......

What I've read here so far seems to be factual. And I honestly look forward to a time when everyone is treated equally rather than some being 'special'. Applying some equality would fix all sorts of problems.
The current favourite game locally seems to be driveway cleaning, charging a nice chunk of change of a quick jetwash and then trying for extra to 'seal' it. Unless I'm making an assumption about blokes in unmarked vans with thick Irish accents targeting the elderly to do a crap job for cash while a camp exists in a park just up the road.
And the guys cruising around in their van apparently looking for stuff that isn't nailed down weren't subtle either. Especially when they were stopped in the road chatting about it.

No, it really wouldn't. It's this constant demand for equality everywhere that is the CAUSE of most of the problems today.What I've read here so far seems to be factual. Had dealings with travellers a few times.
About 25 yrs ago was the last respectful and non antagonistic group of travellers I've met. They didn't want any trouble and didn't bother anyone.
It seems that these days the vast majority of travellers have a complete disregard for anyone but themselves. No respect for anything or each other at times.
They seem to carry a massive chip on their shoulder and do nothing to discredit the traveller stereotype, they make it worse.
They really need to take a step into the real world, the illiteracy amongst travellers and traveller children is at an all time high, send the kids to school. Alcoholism amongst travellers is also on the increase, with this comes crime and anti social behaviour, the odd wife beating too.
If they don't want to be seen as disrespectful disruptive criminals, they really need to clean their act up.

To some extent there's a parallel to another extremely contentious subject, points at abuse by a certain sector of society on young girls in Rotherham etc and the perception that their community does very little to stop or even condemn it.Brought it out on a local radio phone in breakfast show where one of the talking points was the use of that p word, you know baked goods with pastry cases and lock activation devices.
A travellers representative came on to say how insulting a term it was and we're just lovable misunderstood oppressed folk. The host, who is quite good at expressing contrarian arguments to get guests wound up, came straight out with it and asked what was the caller's attitude towards possibly a small sector of the travelling community who didn't behave and caused trouble.
Response from the traveller? Oh look, a squirrel! No condemnation whatsoever, not even a hint. Jog on, misbehave and you need sorting, without fear or favour. This is what seems to be missing.
