I can really see them coughing up £80 a week to park their caravans laugh

Phil and Denise O’Hara booked the break to the popular holiday company’s Bognor Regis resort with 26 family and friends to celebrate their ruby wedding anniversary on New Year’s Eve.
A very lucky escape then.
Given that this is Butlins you'd have to question for whom?

Me. I'm only ten miles away...

Although to be fair to Butlins they're pretty good at keeping the 'guests' contained within their grounds.

Bognor is a real shame, we're looking to move and there are some absolutely stunning Georgian/Victorian houses in our price range (£100k plus extra anywhere else in the area) but with the town resembling a set on the walking dead and Butlins I just can't do it.

I'd be more concerned about the safety of the Travellers in some of those proposed sites.

Must admit it's an interesting concept. At the moment part of the issue is where do we go? The answer anywhere but here doesn't really solve anything, except start the whole cycle again. It also gets round one part of the issue if criminal damage to access the site has been done. If so, then offski, pronto, but if none then gets more complicated, especially if council land.

Great idea for weeding them out and restricting their fun.

If only everyone could do the same so their fun is curtailed. Let's make their life no fun. They become persona non grata everywhere. Locked out of everywhere/everything. Make life difficult. They stop, straight there and move them on. Dip their fuel tanks, red = confiscate and crush. Human excrement, environmental health called to check on their facilities. If they are found to be 'dumping' human waste + fine (payable on the spot) and a cease and desist order.

The laws are all there. The officials are all employed as are the law enforcement officials. They just need the balls to do it.
And there lies the problem, no bottle from police or council.

They've finally moved on from Snodland (mentioned earlier in thread).

Don't think NYR recovery got any grief off them but there are 3 or 4 caravans dumped around Snodland Halling and Cuxton!

They've been there all that time??

I guess it may have got "interesting" if they'd had a go at any of Neil's stuff.

This in spades. Kicking them onto the next town is not the answer, if they even do that.

They arrived a few days ago at a retail park near me. Bailliston/Coatbridge Showcase cinema.

4 caravans, 1 horse trailer, and a load of mess and Calor gas bottles lying about.

They got in an area that's blocked off to keep the lorry drivers from parking up overnight.
Wonder how long it will be before they get moved on.

Had a "traveller" drop his car in to work last week, for a service.

He was told the price (£290), 2 younger guys came to collect it and upon being told the bill, one claimed that it had a service plan, this was checked and nothing flagged up, so he was told he'd have to settle the bill.

He claimed he had no money, he was told he couldn't have the car until the bill was settled.

This went back and forth for a bit and in the end the service manager got involved;not wantung any hassle that these types bring, told him £180 and he could have the car back, the guy asked where the nearest cashpoint was and was directed there, they both left the building and came back a few minutes later (the cashpoint is more than a few minutes away), with £180.

Clearly they were trying it in and unfortunately they won!

A Basildon Council spokesperson said: "Basildon Council is aware of the current unauthorised encampment in the car park at Hannakins Farm Community Centre in Billericay and is working in partnership with Essex Countywide Traveller Unit and Essex Police to take appropriate action."

Hannakins Farm is a sports centre with lots of football pitches which are utilised by lots of school age children, all activities have been cancelled. In fairness to Basildon Council, they persevered with the eviction of the Crays Hill site - so I expect this lot will get moved on. But why the tax paying, hard working, honest population have to put up with this is beyond belief. I suspect every rant and argument about how to resolve this is already covered in this thread. However, I doubt that the 'Travellers' have seen any change.

Anyone remember this:

Pensioner stopped gang of travellers camping in nature reserve but lost false teeth after one assaulted her

Magistrates Court said:
Loveridge, of Woking, Surrey, ordered to carry out 210 hours of work in the community and pay Miss Freeman £250, and £310 court costs and £85 victim surcharge.

Crawt, of Littlehampton, West Sussex, given a six-month community order.
This pic from the article made me chuckle.

The py idea of "recycling" is to chuck stuff into the nearest hedgerow.

This is the problem, they are so completely and utterly relentless where money is concerned that most of the time ordinary people will just give up on the end and tell them they can have stuff cheaply or free.

They grind you down and refuse to give up until they get their own with the price.

We get them coming into my work occasionally, and as always you can spot them as a traveller before they have even opened their mouths.

We always just tell them we are too busy or give them a silly inflated price. That gets rid of them.

I don’t see why you would ever do any work for them, you’d have to be barking. The chances of you seeing your money are remote. If there’s some stupid law about it (not serving them) then charge them up front instead.

Similar thing happened at a garage I worked in years ago - a Transit van for some work (can't remember what it got done), guy refused to pay so my boss kept the key, put a Krooklok (sp?) on the steering wheel and guess what - we never saw the Transit or the Krooklok again!
