Did they escape the cops, even towing caravans? If so then I reckon that is proof enough the cops dont want to tackle them

One of my colleagues lives in a small holding on the side of the A66. He also commutes to Newcastle City Centre in a 1.1 Panda, so he's obviously mental.

Regardless, he's had to lock/bolt/chain everything up as the early landers have started turning up for Appleby Horse Fair. He's absolutely dreading it.

The only other major encounter I've had with the travelling community was when I was working just outside Paris and staying in an Ibis in Beauvais. (or Paris, if you fly by Ryanair.) It was the night before Bastille Day 2010 so I was off work and in the hotel bar, where my non-French accent was heard by a chap in a trilby.

I sat and got absolutely stfaced with him, he was grateful of someone to have a chat with. I can't remember much through being soused, but I do recall him telling me that the 6 month old, Scottish registered Toureg parked in the car park had cost him nowt more than the deposit for the finance, but he could never drive it back into the UK.

Still never worked out why he was staying in a hotel, though.
