Delightful traveller children seem to have removed things from peoples gardens here in Leicestershire like bikes, bins and huge rocks and blocked the road to the village with them and are pelting anyone that tries to remove them.

I think the standard PH response is 'those lovable, cheeky scamps'

A law unto themselves.

They've broken into and set up camp om a local field containing a kids' skateboard park, which is now off limits to any of said kids, and meantime the visiting offspring are pelting cars parked in the adjacent leisure centre with rocks.

The police response was cracking, we'll send someone out to ask them not to but I don't hold out much hope.

Can you imagine the police saying to anyone else in the country committing a crime we'll ask them not to but don't hold out much hope?

It is worded very carefully.

PM me your email and you can see it. If you agree then sign it.

Once it has 5 signatures it can "go live"
Happy to read and sign if you still need any?

The biggest challenge will be getting this public. There *will* be racism accusations. But the (growing?) groundswell of negative opinion ought to get enough people interested.

Signed. Also, plus 1 so there should be the required 5 signatures now.

Thanks to everyone who PM'd me.

I have the 5 supporters and it is now up for review to make sure it meets government standards.

Apparently, this can take up to a week!

I'm tempted to put the wording of it all up here but have not so far received any feedback on the wording. Negative or otherwise.

Let's see if things get approved first.

10,000 signatures for a government response.

100,000 signatures to be debated in parliament.

Indeed, the response is that it's not aimed at Travellers, indeed its not. It's aimed at any anyone who enters and occupies land without consent.

Wild campers
Tenters
Off-roaders
etc...

Interestingly we took the dog for a forest walk yesterday evening. When we arrived there were some cars in the car park and a motor caravan conversion stuck in one corner. An hour later we got back to the car, just the van and us, assumption being that they were going to wild camp, not permitted on FC land but that's between them and the local Forestry Comm'n bods.

What wasn't acceptable was that they had dragged a fairly substantial tree branch across the road blocking access. They didn't appear amused when I dragged it right out of the way to leave.

As before you will have to be careful what you wish for. Law of unintended consequences couple with over enthusiastic enforcement, could see Mr and Mrs Molehusband nicked for stopping with their caravan to let the dog out for a slash and brew a cuppa. The problem children will carry on as before flicking the V's as they don't give a stuff for the law, unless they choose it's in their personal direct interest. Whilst ever some are the gang with the biggest teeth they will get away with it. The police ought to be that but for many reasons that horse has bolted.

This is what annoys everyone so much, they have no consideration for any one else!
Rubbish. Ask any of them, their whole community is based on respect... oh wait.

The ones that live around here aren't so bad compared to what I'm reading on here but since a new site went up illegally on a field nearby there's been a rise in theft, including my car where my passenger door was prised open and some odd bits stolen. Didn't bother to contact the police because they don't give a st.

Not if the people responsible for maintenance don't give a st about it. Based on personal gate related experience.

Thanks for that. You haven't tried calling the police regarding travellers in the past few years, have you? Nor read much of this thread, I guess.

The police are patently, clearly and very obviously afraid of travellers. Whether that's physically afraid, afraid of the ramifications, or both, I don't know, but it's abundantly clear.

I and many other have posted countless examples. The one which really sticks out for me is where travellers, about 200 yards from my house, threatened to kill a friend's wife if she tried to stop them breaking into some land. They were filmed doing and saying this, they stayed in the village, the police were shown the video, and what do you think happened next?

It was...

...yep, all that white space above. Nothing. "I'll fking run you over and kill you if you don't move out of my way" were, as I recall, the actual words. Still, obviously all just a bit of fun, I expect the police WOULD of course get involved if it were anything actually serious, eh?

OK, fair enough. Sorry, I just get massively frustrated by their untouchable status. Even when you stand next to a uniformed PC and jointly watch a traveller committing a crime, and ask them to intervene, they will still do nothing. I genuinely don't believe that increasing the stats will achieve anything, they have more than enough data to take action/make a change as it is, and still they do absolutely nothing.

Now offering their paving services. Their vehicle shown as not taxed.

So come on Surrey/Hants police who are PHers, put a marker on BU06FGK and use the full force of the law as you would on any member of the general public for driving an untaxed vehicle.

The filthy human sub species have descended again at junction 12 of the m1 and have in just 2 days dumped st on an industrial scale, they did exactly the same in the same place last year . Time for me to clear out all my old wood screws somewhere near the entrance .

Sentiment understood, however, the sole outcome of that will be a loss of money for local tyre services who will be scammed into repairing the tyres f.o.c

It may encourage them to move on and will at least slow down their activities .
