Travelers here ( In Ireland) were granted status as an ethnic minority. Peter Casey said openly what many believe to be true but has been drowned out by the do gooder deluge.

Are they granted this status in UK?

Was off on Friday waiting for a parcel, door rang and it was a group of 5 with thick irish accents going door to door (at lunchtime on Friday.. like anyone's going to be in) trying to sell boxes of knives for £20.

Think they were scoping out houses?

Had one knock on the door the other day , apologising in advance for the noise his jet washer would make cleaning the neighbours drive.

And while he was on he could offer me 20% off if he did our drive while he was in the street.

Must say I was quite impressed with his method of trying to earn a few bob.

Less impressive was the fact that I’d had the drive cleaned a few months ago and it was gleaming and he chose to ignore it.

Very polite and well presented as well.

I had one of these visits, neighbours drives, discount etc etc. I obviously declined. Strangely none of the neighbours drives were ever cleaned by this person.

It's the old story and though it, in a way, uses the old 80/20 rule somewhat modified, this case opens up how true it is. Essentially there was a discussion, if that be the right word, that if every force were asked to name their top 20 problem 'families', and then were allowed resources to go hard at those 'families' and put them behind bars, and keep back at them on release, 80% of current crime would disappear.
It does seem to be a familiar message though, I used to live next door to a policeman who worked in one of the less salubrious parts of Leeds. He used to tell me exactly the same...if he had a shotgun and one evening, he thought he would be able to clear up a significant amount of Leeds crime very quickly.

Although I can totally understand your thinking that they may have been casing places for future, or immediate attention, AND also may well have stolen the boxes of knives they were selling, AND I hate the bas*ards anyway, why was it “unlikely” that anyone would be in?
I was in last Friday, you were too, although granted waiting for a delivery, my neighbour was in, driving me nuts mowing his lawn, my son was at his home, he called me from Winchmore Hill at midday, to say that he was bubbling up a big stash of Cozido à Portuguesa, for that night, did I fancy some?
I take your probable point that Friday is a work day, but some of us live eclectic life styles, outside the box.

Then the cop, security guards, alarm installers, social workers, housing people etc etc would all be out of jobs wink

Would be lots more money in the pot though

Interesting debate though..... should we tacitly 'allow' some crime, as it generates more jobs/income for a wider portion of society.....

Not sure of the social/moral/real cost of crime realities though.....

This.
My parents are both 87 and both with some degree of Dementia. They are extremely vulnerable.
I've installed CCTV cameras on the outside of their house and a camera door entry system to deter them being targeted by such people.

I doubt they are even 'casing' the joint, it's pure opportunism. If an old person answers the door they'll try one routine (i.e. my dogs just run into your back garden can I try and get him back or could I trouble you for a glass of water etc. etc. etc.) or if no one answers and they can see the gate is open they will go and have a look. This isn't limited to this 'community', lots of scrotes will be doing this.

Last year I got a knock on the door and a thick set fellow stood there with the inevitable white transit parked outside my house.
By a lucky chance he had some block paving cleaner and sealant left over from a previous job. He offered to jet wash the block paving, re-sand it and then seal it all for £150. I told him that it was fine & I didn't need it doing. This went on & on and he kept dropping the price until he was offering to do it for £40.
I wanted to question the quality of the work that he could provide for £40 but decided that could be a risky ploy. Eventually he gave up and went on his way.

That's fvcking nuts isn't it? Everyone I've spoken to around here voted for Casey.

My lad had a run in with some of these lovable champs on Halloween. Had an egg planted into his face and was then sucker punched (which admittedly is not normally the traveler way. They do seem to have a degree of integrity when it comes to fighting. Normally it's one on one and you shake hands and hug each other when you're finished.

The egging is no big deal apart from the fact it was very close to his eye. I'm no snowflake and I expect my kids to occasionally get into scrapes but a bit off egg shell into your cornea is not going to end well.

Sucker punches are bang out of order too in my book.

What pisses me off is the the fact that the Guards (Police to the rest of the world) will not go any where near these people.

There's no point in even reporting the incident to the Guards/Police.

Currently our only course of action is to ask the school that our lad to be seated away from the retard.

This blows my mind as the reason they were sat together is my lad has been doing his best to help the spactard with his maths and english.

A year ago I told my son when they were landed in the same class, 'Just try and help him in class - get him interested in school and learning.' and then the tt turns round and does this to the one person that was trying to help him.

W.T.F. are you to do?

Best thing to do, never employ them, or don't feed the animals as my daughter likes to put it. Normally such a social justice warrior it makes me sound like Heinrich Himmler.

A neighbour needed a tree shaping and trimming out a bit of die back so he set on one of the Caravan Club of Ireland set. Don't know what they charged him but the job was done reasonably well. Except that prompted other callers offering this and that service. A year later neighbour comes back and the original bod is there up the tree doing whatever, without being asked, and of course he wants paying.

Personally our policy is nothing, service or goods, absolutely nothing is bought from door knockers, no discrimination, whoever, traveller or not, and we don't leave scrap out for collection either.

I have them come to my house and knock for work , I just lie and tell them im renting the house and im skint, judging by my appearance they must believe me and move on to next door

I once had a fleet of flatbeds tailgate me on an empty road when I was younger, I was cruising @ 60 and they bullied me to get past, I eased off and let them past but mistakenly gave them the coffee beans sign , I then looked round to see 2 flatbeds transits , 3 up with stocky vest wearing tykes stairing at me. They must have been in a rush as they just tore off into the distance....lucky escape there.

An infestation moved in to a large car park near me in Dudley, West Mids a few weeks back. As usual, full of new cars, new caravans, flatbed trucks etc.

They've since moved on, leaving the car park looking like a bomb site. They left a few dog kennels and the large entrance goal posts which they had cut hanging precariously into the road for good measure.

One mental guy on one of the local FB groups had said he was going to pitch up on the roof of an abandoned office building nearby and start taking pop shots at them with a rifle laugh clearly a keyboard warrior though, unfortunately ...
