Saw some travellers yesterday, on a field facing the main road into Brighton. 7ish caravans. Had their washing hung up, a few kids playing, other sunbathing.
Why don't they find a field that is more private is the thought that came to mind. Why would they want to be gawped at by queueing cars.
They need to be in a catchment area with access to local resources (doctors, benefits, education, etc) for a short period would be my guess. Why don't they find a field that is more private is the thought that came to mind. Why would they want to be gawped at by queueing cars.

Very keen on the law when it suits. Visited my Mum in the badlands of Lincolnshire over the weekend, conversation turned to 'travellers' as we'd seen a small encampment on the local cricket pitch the week before (all gone inside four hours but left the club members with a days' clean up and a felled mature oak tree across one access point).
In Holbeach they'd allocated a permanent site to house a group who'd been on camping on rough land for years - properly done with all the amenities etc etc, including re-siting the o/h cables so as not to upset the new residents. £1million spent.
Years pass and a 'resident' applies for PP to build a 'day room' which looks a lot like a house. Some digging and it transpires the LA have sold the camp to the 'resident' for a nominal sum and a swap for the (unimproved) former site. With a house on it the value is considerable (especially if you haven't paid for it). And best of all the other itinerant visitors no longer want to live there according to local gossip. Priceless.

What never ceases to utterly amaze me is how every man with an IQ over 10, and his dog, can see exactly what's going on, and/or what the outcome of a specific piece of action relative to this "group" will be, and yet the authorities either ignore it, thereby tacitly approving it, or simply repeat the same mistake over and over.

I see what you mean but this is eclipsed by those who defend them, labeling detractors "rascist" for merely pointing out the truths about the toxic menace. This crowd have turned up overnight on what was a lovely green recreational area, outside the offices next to where I work. The canteen that serves these offices, and my work has had to close their doors. As it appears these types are exempt from paying for things, which means no-one could get their lunch there.
They really are an awful shower.

Had a nice meal outside a pub with the Mrs the other evening and a group turned up and pushed two tables together, they were quiet and no trouble at all.
Yes, I was once in the company of Dr Harold Shipman, he didn't murder anyone at all, it was very disappointing.zb said:

but don't some of these 'travellers' favour pick-up trucks? perhaps they may know of the miscreants?

I have to admit that I've never tried stealing a cash machine using a telehandler, it might be more difficult than I think, but they do seem to be making hard work of it - did the first hit shove it right to the back of the bank?http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-leicesters...

It wasn't a farmer driving it anyhow, guy driving is completely clueless.Just had a bunch take up residence near us on a bit of privately owner land. Been there 5 or 6 days, rubbish piled everywhere, human excrement, people have been threatened, "suspicious behaviour" observed, random trail bike/quad bike trouble. Not looking good as the agents have only managed to contact 3 of the 20 or so plot owners, and as it is privately owned only the owners can start the eviction process. Genuinely concerned they may be there for a while...

Seriously, no way that's travellers. Far too much like hard work. Their key MOs are either to lift something innocuous which they can sell quickly, or to scam the vulnerable (roof repairs, tree cutting, rubbish clearance, all at gold-plated prices and most resulting in fly-tipping shortly afterwards). http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-leicesters...
