If you are looking for something different there is an English pen maker called the Worcester Pen Company, worth having a look, they are not too expensive

He needs some photos on his website to show them off. I found a review by Steph on youtube and I can see they are lovely. If it wasn't for that video, I'd never know!http://worcesterpencompany.co.uk/

Sorry can't post a picture at work but its the same colour gold but has longitudinal lines/grooves up it, and yes it is missing any filler apart from using cartridges and the arrow is missing. Its in a nice box though
This is the pen. I think its a standard signet, you can see the longitudinal lines. I think I'm going to look into how to clean it up a bit, replace the arrow and buy the filler cupcake suggests (thanks for that).
Two quick questions though. What does the symbol on the cap mean
and why is there a gap on the surface of the pen. It looks like a gap for an inscription?
When you clean it up you will need to remember that the gold plating is very very thin. No abrasive polish, just a soft cloth, perhaps some household spray polish is all you need.
The replacement of the arrow/dart is almost impossible, have a go if you want by all means, clean out the recess and a tiny amount of adhesive. I havent seen anyone go a good job however. If you are the first please let us know how you did it.
If it doesnt work you can always smooth out the recess.
I cannot remember the filler on your 61. the early 61s had a fixed capillary filler, the later ones will take a Partker converter/filler or a cartridge.
The pen will probably need a lot of flushing through with water, I suggest that you do that before you fix the arrow.
Best of Luck

I know what you mean, the pens are better in real life than on the screen. He is one of the few pen makers to polish his pens with 12000 mesh paper.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t1aeRZTXetU
Started using a Jinhao this morning and thought I would ink a Montblanc 149 to compare the two
The Jinhao is availble at less than £5, the Montblanc will cost £650. The quality of the materials and build quality between the two is substantial, everything works beautifully on the MB, no slack, just precise movements. It isnt a robust pen there is a delicate screw threaded rod to move the piston which has been known to break you are also aware that the plastic is easily scratched and is going to be expensive to repair.
The Jinhao is robust and tough, every part can be taken apart and refixed if there is a problem, I dont look after it and it might even look better with some wear and tear.
The writing experience between the two is much closer. Both feel very similar in use. I have twaeked the nib on the 159 so that the flow and smoothness is right for me. The nib is two sizes smaller than the nib but the experience of the nib on the paper is very similar.
The MB was a gift in 2010, it was filled twice and put away, comes out infrequently, for me £650 is too much to spend on a pen and I couldnt justify the price over much cheaper pens.
I dont miss the fiver I spent on the Jinhao and would do so again.

I think this is the point for me too (no pun etc.). It's like watches; if they do the simple thing that they are designed to do well, then a penny more in cost is vanity, not logic. I know it goes against the opinions of many on PH, but if a £20 Casio is as accurate as the most expensive Rolex, or other expensive watch, then how can anyone justify spending more? Likewise with pens - they write smoothly and reliably for a fiver! What more should they do that justifies even a tenner, let alone hundreds? Just my personal view - other views are available...I dont miss the fiver I spent on the Jinhao and would do so again.

I prefer the X750 to the X450, but have just ordered a 992 for £1.60 in plain black because why not.
I've got an X750 on order but it's not arrive yetWell I succumbed to temptation and went back to P W Akkerman for one of their ink bottles, just look at it, it's a thing of beauty. Only the royal blue is washable, so I figured I should go for that for safety sake Having spotted I wasn't local he asked if I was travelling with the bottle, so he taped the cap and put a foam insert in the box to make it nice and secure for flying home.
But holy crap if any of you pen fans are ever in The Hague you really need to visit this shop, I don't know enough about pens to even know where to start, they must have thousands, and not all crazy expensive stuff either, he had Lammy Safari's and even some Heros (clones of one of the hooded parkers, 61?), but then also had a lot of stuff with 4 digit price tags.
I'm rather liking these
Until I saw the price...

The Heros are clones of the Parker 51, they are very low priced, available on ebay at £1 but QC is terrible, some work ok, others not at all.
Cannot think of any English shop which matches your shop, there is another in Zurich which is pretty good.

No I didn't know about them but I was thinking that John S could custom grind my nib. The trouble is that my Pelikan is a "fine" nib (even though it writes wet and more like a medium) so there may not be enough tipping to turn it into a 0.8mm stub. I may be able to get a 0.5mm out of it though. Do you know about these people

The ink is called Yami-Dori, made by Sailor

As I recall you have a special requirement in terms of your nibs, on that basis I think that John is the best choice, I saw him working at the beginning of April, the standard line from people coming away from his workshop was - I cannot believe the difference. The ink is called Yami-Dori, made by Sailor

Yeah I need to have it slightly right-obliqued due to my left handed angle. Also that website you linked, with their custom grind service, they only do it if you purchase a brand new pen/nib unit with them.I've sent an email to John.... I expect it'll cost around £50 to have my Pelikan nib ground to a custom cursive italic.
