Good shout, so too were Clay Regazzoni, Jochen Rindt and Jo Siffert.

BV's quip about Graham Hill being a spiv made me chuckle out loud. He was definitely cool though and had a wicked sense of humour, winding up Jackie Stewart effortlessly on BBC Sports Personality Of The Year in the early '70s and much like Roger Moore, never took himself too seriously.

I think the problem with many of these nominations is that it's pure image and not the actual person.

If you look into the life of someone like Steve McQueen that coolness hid a personality that was abusive and ragingly insecure. There's nowt very cool about that.
