I've multiple pairs of loafers in multiple colours / materials that I wear all the time and wouldn't dream of wearing socks with ... they don't end up reeking like trainers do when worn the same way
Sounds like you've gone nose blind. When you wear socks, all the sweat and dead skin cells are absorbed by the socks and are removed in the washing machine. If you don't wear socks, that same biological soup is absorbed by the shoes.
think you do need to get out more
I work with a bloke - in his 50's who never wears socks. at any time of the year.
His job- surveying, so he is pretty much outside, all year round.
His reasoning- when he was young he couldn't afford socks, let alone finding a pair and matching them up, so he got accustomed to not having them.
I can't comprehend not having socks on, in the depths of winter, on a building site !!!!
Oh this is in Yorkshire, not cuba or thailand or somewhere warm !

There's no way I couldn't wear socks with anything other than open footwear. Even then I have to wear thick cotton sports socks. Otherwise within a day - or an afternoon if it's warm - people would seek to avoid my company wherever possible. I think my feet ended up with 80% of my sweat glands. I thought wearing brown shoes in the city was more of a sin?
CorrectI don't work in London or an office but if I go into any city I shouldn't wear brown shoes?
The no brown in town rule comes from Victorian times when well off people were either hunting (in brown brogues) or in some city office (in black derbies or oxfords) it's simply about not wearing your country clothes In a formal work environment.
Boat shoes, slippers and sandals are the only footwear that men should not wear socks with and both tend to make you look a prat if you do ware socks with them.
If wearing shorts then you would surely chose heal socks (if not doing too much walking/labouring) or short ankle socks if running/walking a lot/labouring/etc. Wearing socks that go more than an inch or so above the top of the back of the shoe/trainer with shorts (unless full knee length and part of some 'I'm from the 1870's Raj' style look) is highly questionable with out a reasonable excuse.
I did spend a number of years from 18 to 25ish when i rarely wore socks. but then in those days i rarely ever wore shoes either (unless driving - i hate even moving a car about on the drive without shoes on), and if i did they were boat shoes or trainers.

Seriously do some of you people wear socks all the time with shoes?
Yes, absolutely. For me, I hate the feeling of any sort of shoe without socks, doesn't matter where I'm going, what clothes I'm wearing, I will always have socks on (unless, as mentioned earlier, I'm in one of the 2 locations where I wear flip-flops.)
I'm safe from the look in your picture though as I hate open toed footwear, so have never owned or worn sandals

The recent fashion for no socks and too ankle length trousers is just hipsters pretending they have stepped off their yacht. tts.
Yep, that's my take on it. The issue is, if I buy shoes that are primarily aimed at that demographic, am I going to look an even bigger twunt if I do wear socks and adult length trousers with them?MitchT said:

With those particular shoes sock/no sock is the least of the issues - they are irredeemable.Loafers look ok with and without depending on the trousers.

"adult length trousers" are they the ones that actually reach your shoes as opposed to stopping above the ankle? Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
