So I heard about this this morning, and wondered what the challenges actually are supposed to be ... found a guide here (http://www.higgypop.com/blog/blue-whale-challenge/) and its totally ludicrous, why aany young person would want to "play" is beyond me.

Apparently 130 potential suicides so far across Russia/Ukraine/Slovenia!!

Complete List Of Blue Whale Challenges
A Reddit user posted a completed list of tasks which were supposedly posted in a comment on a story about the game on a Russian news website. The list of 50 challenges has been translated from Russian.

1. Carve with a razor "f57" on your hand, send a photo to the curator.
2. Wake up at 4.20 a.m. and watch psychedelic and scary videos that curator sends you.
3. Cut your arm with a razor along your veins, but not too deep, only 3 cuts, send a photo to the curator.
4. Draw a whale on a sheet of paper, send a photo to curator.
5. If you are ready to "become a whale", carve "YES" on your leg. If not, cut yourself many times (punish yourself).
6. Task with a cipher.
7. Carve "f40" on your hand, send a photo to curator.
8. Type "#i_am_whale" in your VKontakte status.
9. You have to overcome your fear.
10. Wake up at 4:20 a.m. and go to a roof (the higher the better)
11. Carve a whale on your hand with a razor, send a photo to curator.
12. Watch psychedelic and horror videos all day.
13. Listen to music that "they" (curators) send you.
14. Cut your lip.
15. Poke your hand with a needle many times
16. Do something painful to yourself, make yourself sick.
17. Go to the highest roof you can find, stand on the edge for some time.
18. Go to a bridge, stand on the edge.
19. Climb up a crane or at least try to do it
20. The curator checks if you are trustworthy.
21. Have a talk "with a whale" (with another player like you or with a curator) in Skype.
22. Go to a roof and sit on the edge with your legs dangling.
23. Another task with a cipher.
24. Secret task.
25. Have a meeting with a "whale."
26. The curator tells you the date of your death and you have to accept it.
27. Wake up at 4:20 a.m. and go to rails (visit any railroad that you can find).
28. Don't talk to anyone all day.
29. Make a vow that "you're a whale."
30-49. Everyday you wake up at 4:20am, watch horror videos, listen to music that "they" send you, make 1 cut on your body per day, talk "to a whale."
50. Jump off a high building. Take your life

He's annoyed because he woke up late and he lives in a bungalow.

Awareness for people on here who may have teenage kids since it's targeted at 11-15yr olds

Oh and I've no idea where the waking up late and bungalow comments come from, ive worked hard for to get my primark cardboard box and reject blanket and every morning security in the shopping precinct give me a personal wake up call at exactly 06:30 FYI wink

It never was. I read a document about it lately, but it was in Russian. It was staged by an idiot radio presenter in a sthole called Irkutsk, after a single schoolgirl suicide, who was bullied by her classmates. This caused mass-hysteria over here, which lasted months and cost alot of wasted time and money.
Kids are no idiots these days. It's just most of us don't understand them, hence the fear.

The whole social media thing is very dangerous for teens these days, they are hooked and how they now measure themselves against their friends and peers and how they validate their existance.I think there are alot of problems ahead due to the whole instant gratification created by social media and the potential for mental illness/extreme mood swings and simple things like lack of sleep and attention span.
Go out for a meal and watch other people.Nobody talks anymore, families are all on phones at the table, couples check their phones when there is a pause in their very short conversations.A phones beeps a notification, everybody reaches for their phone.

Social media has become unsocial in my book but then again I have no interest in it,well apart from Pistonheads smile

I saw this the other day and just assumed it was parental trolling like the idea that drug dealers are handing out acid to kids at halloween.

I'm sure there was something similar sounding when I started secondary school, it went along the lines of "do you want to see the blue whale" and if you answered yes then you were dragged into the nearest toilets and had you head stuck down the bog while it was flushed biggrin

I was out once and met a woman who asked me if I wanted to go back to her house to see her kipper.

Being a lover of fish as pets, I was quite disappointed when we got to the house and she simply bent over with no pants on.

It's not just kids. I have a 36 year old, mentally unstable brother who has just been on the receiving end of an issue at work via social media.

As you say, literally everybody is glued to their phones.

PH is pretty much as far as I take it with social media. Always amazes me the reaction I get though when I tell people I don't do Facebook.

Reminds me of a series i'm watching on Netflix called Thirteen Reasons.

About a girl who takes her life after pressures at school all meshed together with social media.

I have a 9 year old girl at primary school and i genuinely worry about what's ahead. Social media is a problem, i use Facebook and Twitter and read reddit and there is nothing that you can't find.

That must have been such a disappointment for you FR. frown

I feel your pain. But in all honesty, didn't you stop at the time, to wonder if something fishy was going on?

You don't go on Facebook? OMG! HOW DO YOU LIVE WITHOUT IT EVEN THOUGH YOU LIVE VERY WELL WITHOUT IT? OMG!!!111!!!

Are you not even on there "just to keep up with a couple of distant relatives and school friends, along with some interesting motoring related groups" which is what everyone else on PH seems to do?

Although i'm on FB i genuinely don't see the value in it. I have it because of a couple of historic groups that we used to organise ride outs with etc. Think i might bin it.
