After knowing my brothers neighbour for a couple of years, chatting at parties and barbecues etc, it was only earlier this year we got to talking about jobs, and that only because my brother got a contract at the same place she works.

So when I said what do you do she said "I work for the government in waste disposal" I thought that was odd as my brother had to get a security clearance to work at the same place.

After further discussion it seems that she is a military drone pilot. eek

I find people always seem to ask, and unfortunately always follow up in the same way (I worked for Aston Martin in Gaydon up until earlier this year).

When I answered with that people would always say 'do you get a company car?', followed by 'do you get to drive them' followed by 'could you get me good discount on one?'

Daft questions aside I suppose it's fairly interesting for some and a good convo starter. Now I just reply with 'I work from home'. Not really the truth but far easier and explains me not spending every day in an office.

I just see it as a standard ice breaker (and so I can judge). I'm not sure why some people get shirty about it.

If someone avoids answering the question, or gives some bullst response I just assume that they have a st job.

"a bit of this and a bit of that"
