Am I the only one that finds Facebook profile pictures that are changed to incorporate a flag/heart etc after a disaster of some kind. What are they trying to achieve? Im sure 99.9% of sane people are appalled so I just do not understand why they do this.

Also bloggers who " I just felt the need to post this" after a disaster telling people not to hate a certain group. Its pure attention seeking.

Maybe Im a sceptic but I hate watching the news and you see a stories such as the family from Wigan who travelled to Manchester to hand out food and drink to emergency services. Did they honestly want to help? or was it 15 minutes of fame and a go fund me page?

This has it's own term now - its called 'slacktivism' - token gesture to look caring and garner the social kudos of being caring without having to bother your arse and actually BE caring.

Urm....yes and no. Some do - but there are an equivalent number of people I see on various news feeds actively condoning and encouraging the hatred of certain groups - so you can sort of see their point. I choose to ignore people I deem bigots....but sometimes it takes quite a lot of effort.

This hinges almost entirely on whether they found the news crew, or the news crew found them. If the former, I am inclined to agree.

Whilst I'm sure there are people like that, I like to think there's a silent majority who did it for the right reasons.

I tell you what I find cringeworthy. Celebrity culture. In fact its goes beyond cringeworthy, its downright embarrassing and pathetic, but it still makes me cringe so it deserves a place in this thread.

The fact that someone can become rich, famous and successful despite having no actual talent whatsoever (other than being a ). The brain dead morons who worship them and enable this ridiculous "industry". The fact said brain dead morons copy off their idols, and become utter imbeciles with abhorrent, disgusting, narcissistic, self-entitled attitudes. Hardly surprising when their inspiration comes from Geordie Shore, TOWIE, or one of the Kardashian clan or some other non-entity as read on the sidebar of shame on the Daily Fail website.

Sometimes when I look at what we're becoming, I think that perhaps a second major global catastrophe such as the asteroid that wiped out the dinosaurs would probably be a good thing for the planet in the long term. Although personally I'd rather we just wiped out all of these vacuous wastes of organic matter off the face of the earth, and we can get back to admiring those who actually deserve it, those who have talent. While we're on about talent, can we not exterminate Simon Cowell for crimes against music? .
Group hug.

I agree. This is what is so strange about the life of today. Wonder when it all really started? I know people have always followed stars but back then it was the movie idols.Maybe it was created by the papers to sell more by building this 'want' of knowing.

Hate to say it because of the recent murders but the stars are mainly on there to get their names out there. There was a celeb a while back on a TV chat show that told everyone how it all worked (as if we didn't know) and maybe let on more than she should by saying along the lines of....

But instead of saying "I maybe pregnant" would tweet "Is Boots open on Sunday as I'm a bit worried after last nights passion" and that generates more interest. But they don't or rarely actually do anything it's their media outlet that does it all.
It started when people stopped believing in God or their royals or their emperor etc.

Then that's a good thing, nothing to be gained from believing in that nonsense. I disagree though, societies generally stop believing in god when they become more educated.

I reckon it happened at the end of the 90's and reached epidemic proportions in the year 2000. Beckham on the front pages every single day and from there grew a monster that still needs to be fed.

The more people have access to the means of communication the worse the vacuity of celebrity culture gets. Hopefully the nadir has been reached now that everyone can communicate their every useless waking thought.

A post I saw earlier that was something like:

"Does anyone have a selection of parrots from which he can choose" (whoosh parrot related).

My body tried to climb inside of itself with embarrassment reading it.

Reference to a comedy strip in a motorcycle newspaper or magazine in the late 80's early 90's, hapless driver of reversed Swedish wagon.
Thanks,a serious explanation......thumbup

That guy had to be some kind of genius troll. Nobody can be that big of a . His finest effort was talking about how his wife and Victoria Beckham sat around discussing the benefits of private health care. That's Partridge-esque brilliance. Or he's a ginormous .

Instagram.

It's a marketplace for anyone that can take a selfie.

I have it for my interests, cars, fitness, food and engineering. (there may be a select few ladies in there too)

The search page however is full of local people trying to follow in the footsteps of their insta-idols. Gold diggers flaunting for the nearest drug dealer. Men posing like models / women outside their local posh bar. Promoting some bullst product they've been sent.

It seems like a full time job keeping up this perfect online lifestyle. I don't know how they can be bothered.

Comes under the banner of Virtue Signalling [I believe it's called]. I think slightly less of the people I know that do this.

I have just signed up to Instagram and you're right - it is cringey as hell. Search for a random word and you just get loads of seflies. FFS, completely uninteresting stuff. Hot chicks in bikinis gets really, really dull as well after the 23rd page.
