Cringeworthy things
Discussion
I had been struggling to put my finger on it - but its the 'in the club' stuff that bothers me about some posters (good way of putting it)
It's a sort of needy attention seeking thing - presumably people that do it are a bit frustrated in one way or another and feel the need to be 'the man' about something

Credit where it's due, guys, at least the consistency level is high.

Blimey! Full-on fruitloopage. Love all the "bore off" comments in the other threads. The really cringeworthy bits are the liberal sprinklings of aviation/military acronyms and argot, clearly to indicate that they're "in the club" and know something the rest of us don't; it's all a bit of a MILSPEC SNAFU. Roger and out. Or something. This one's an belter. First couple of pages ought to do it.

I love that people misunderstand the Official Secrets Act...you don't have to sign a bit of paper to join the special club of people who can be prosecuted under this Act.Anyone in the street can be prosecuted under the Act no matter who they work/worked for or whether or not they signed a slip of paper as part of the recruitment process.

Although I was referring to the 'I am the law!' approach in general.

Oh yeah of course! I just find it dumb and cringe inducing when people get all excited about signing a slip of paper reminding them about the Act.Although I was referring to the 'I am the law!' approach in general.
Just looked up "Beadwindow" too as I hadn't come across that before...

Oooh can I nominate the Katie Hopkins thread
people upset at her sacking by LBC and calling any one who disagrees a 'bedwetter' as it makes them look really fking hard
Someone will doubtlessly be along shortly to start handing out the 'snowflake' and 'liberal' badges of shame.people upset at her sacking by LBC and calling any one who disagrees a 'bedwetter' as it makes them look really fking hard

And in that vein, the people in the F1 thread who speak in "Sky timing captions", e.g. "I think HAM for pole, but will be run close by VET; PAL to DNF".It's a sort of needy attention seeking thing - presumably people that do it are a bit frustrated in one way or another and feel the need to be 'the man' about something

A similar vein........people who use the airport initials ,someone flew from ABC to XYZ the other day ,had no idea where these places were.I only know the easy ones.

On that note, can someone explain the insult Social Justice Warrior to me? Maybe I'm thick (its entirely possible) but why is 'social justice' such a bad thing as to be worthy of derision?
In the mind of the right-wing nutjob, on PH and elsewhere, caring for the fate of others is considered a weakness...Johnny Raydome said:

Also Ginetta G15 Girl. Can you imagine what she's like in real life..?

Absolutely brilliant! I remember once she was furious that she didn't know the correct name of a Sykes-Fairbairn/Fairbairn-Sykes/Whatever-Wahtever and went nuclear when someone more knowledgeable pointed out her error.
Turns out he was a 777 pilot.
She left the thread after that funnily enough...
Just wow.

Probably guilty of that but nonetheless, I'm not really seeing the cringe in it TBH. It's the F1 thread, and they're not 'sky timing captions' - they're on the main F1 feed, hence everyone who is on the thread will know what they mean. It just saves typing Verstappen, Raikkonen, Wehrlein etc.
If it were being dropped casually into conversation then yes fair enough.

It's a marketplace for anyone that can take a selfie.
I have it for my interests, cars, fitness, food and engineering. (there may be a select few ladies in there too)

The search page however is full of local people trying to follow in the footsteps of their insta-idols. Gold diggers flaunting for the nearest drug dealer. Men posing like models / women outside their local posh bar. Promoting some bullst product they've been sent.
You know that the search page is tailored to go with accounts you already like? ie when I look at mine, there are no selfies as I don't like the accounts of people who take loads of selfies. Just similar things to stuff I've liked.
It was more aimed at the fakery and perfectly posed photos that people strive to post as if its normal behaviour / life.
Going out for a meal? Make sure to take a picture of me against this wall, while I pose so that you can see I'm wearing Louboutin's and make sure you catch my Rolex in the light.

I used to work for TNT and coding freight was part of my job. I used to know an embarrassingly large number of airport codes.I only know the easy ones.

At the risk of walting out slightly, an oddity of the official secrets act is it automatically applies to people who work for the government, but is only applicable to others if they're specifically notified, hence the signing to say you're aware of it, rather than something like the homicide act that covers everyone. Anyone in the street can be prosecuted under the Act no matter who they work/worked for or whether or not they signed a slip of paper as part of the recruitment process.
Agree that the occasional "I've signed the official secrets act" comments on here are very cringe inducing.

I've encountered a couple of SJWs over the last few years. Invariably they are the type of people to get offended on behalf of somebody else, search for problems that do not exist, are spectacularly pedantic, and believe that shouting louder than everyone else is a sensible way to express their opinion. Yes, their ideas and opinions may have some noble foundations, however any credibility is lost in the delivery.
As for instagram - I follow various car related pages, marine reef tanks and house rabbits, but ever since learning about "tagthesponsor" a fair few "model/hookers" have made their way into my suggestions to follow.
