The wife and I got first class tickets for our US trip this coming summer. I'm mean and could never normally justify it (no matter what I was earning at the time) but we did the States last year as well and were crammed into the tiniest of Economy seats and when the guy in front leaned the seat back I couldn't see the onboard entertainment screen! This was BA!

Economy long haul is just awful. Economy anywhere in Europe is just fine.

This vacation we don't have much spare time around the flight for recovery so we've bought tickets that should mean we get some sleep etc.

Just making the point that sometimes people do pay their own money to upgrade...airlines got to sell all those seats...

We earn significantly less than 500K! wink
Did you consider business class as a happy medium?

I'd love to experience first class one day, but doubt I ever will as ridiculously expensive!
Sometimes first is cheaper than business - if business gets booked up but first doesn't, the cheapest first fares work out less than the most expensive business. Always worth checking! (Not that I've ever paid for or been in either that often frown )

To be fair - 2.2k on a return flight is half decent value.

I reckon I could drink about 600 quid's worth, each way. Would be tough, but I am serious when it comes to getting value for money.
Yep, I paid BA a couple of grand extra for Business Class to Calgary a few months ago. It's a luxury I'm happy to pay for on such a flight. But it is a luxury - no question.

Where it's different for the OP is that he's starting to begrudge paying for someone else to enjoy the same luxury and finds that extra cost can be difficult to justify. So instead of adding to the character assassination that's gathering momentum, I'd suggest the OP gives this relationship serious thoughts about its future and whether or not it's worthwhile continuing. It's unlikely the resentment will fade away and will most likely permeate through to other aspects of their relationship given time.

Some where hinting at how could he afford club/1st if hes only an IT grad bod with 4 years experience (i dont know what an IT bod earns)
Approx £25-£30k but this can vary and be substantially higher of he is good / in a speciality.
Based on other threads he's on around 33k

This has been the same with me and previous GF's - i'm absolutely fine in paying for them as long as they genuinely appreciate it and understand that the luxuries don't grow on trees. If anything, I enjoy giving them experiences that they wouldn't otherwise be able to have/afford. The moment they expect me to pay without giving a thought to contributing is when I start to take a dim view.

I did once end a relationship of about 9 months when the GF at the time went to grab her wallet before we went out for the evening and then thought it would be easier to leave it at home as she wouldn't need it.

If you can afford to do it and begrudge it - she isn't right for you
If you can afford to do it, want to and she doesn't appreciate it - she isn't right for you
If you can afford to do it, want to and she appreciates it - she's a keeper.

You need to have a very long and good look at yourself. Your lack of support for your partner "she only earns minimum wage and only ever will", is shameful. I feel very sorry for her, as if she read this thread she would be heartbroken. As many have said before, she is far too good for you.
Quite....... in absolute terms he's not far above minimum wage himself. biggrin

Hold on, you've gone to Vegas 40-odd times in the last 6 years - WTF?

I take it you either have work or family out there otherwise you must really, really love the place hehe

Very strange thread indeed.

Women may well turn out to be snakes with tits but at the time, if you love them, you will give them everything you have.

If you are worried about paying for them, then better look for another one you don't mind paying for ?

What's the point otherwise ? Just rent one ?

OP, if you have this attitude now then wait until you have kids, or have a vasectomy. Kids are expensive enough when they are young but when they at adult meals and need adult tickets you're stuffed with that attitude.
