Right, question to you folks:
I've recently bid and "won" a car, 15k, for a car that goes for anything from 19k up.
I think the fact that it was wrongly listed under "parts" rather than "cars" meant it remained under the radar. I guess.

There was no reserve so technically I bought it. Auction ended 1800 yesterday.

Now, I'm not going to hold it against the sellerif he decides not to sell it for that amount, but my issue now is that I had no contact (sent 1 "request of invoice/total" and 1 message) and there is another car I'm bidding on, auction ends tomorrow night.
I don't want to miss on the other one because the seller is sheepish.
But don't want to run the risk of buying 2 cars.

I know it has only been 24hours, but I guess if I was to sell something @15k on fleabay I would probably establish contact fast-ish.

Any idea on how I can "force" a decision one way or the other? Or whould I just wait forever?

Puzzled...confused

How long would you be prepared to wait?

I've had similar and the seller's have taken up to a week to reply.

Equally if he hasn't replied, I've have no hesitation on buying the other car.

In reality you have no issue not completing a purchase / sale on Ebay.

You used to be able to request the seller's Tel. no. via Ebay - not sure if you still can.

Well, I would like to avoid a negative feedback if the seller comes back after a week and I've bought something else in the meantime.
I do believe he does not want to sell, I wouldn't, but then again, either I would have put reserve or got in touch to explain the situation.

You can't give a buyer negative feedback anymore so I wouldn't worry about upsetting him.

Yes, you cannot get negative feedback as a buyer.

If you don't mind tipping your hand to your intentions or perhaps messing yourself around if you don't win the other auction, maybe send the seller a message saying something like "I really need you to contact me by [time] tomorrow evening to confirm this sale, as there is another car available I need to make a decision on. If I do not hear from you, I will look at purchasing that one, and if I do, I'm afraid I wouldn't be buying yours".

Ebay often check message history during disputes, so regardless of the rules, having something you can point to and show you explained the circumstances to him might make it easier to avoid any unpleasantness.

Other way around, you can't give negative feedback as a seller.

laugh Indeed!

Is that er... like a buyer being unable to get a negative from a seller... rotate

I'd normally wait a few days, but if it has "sold" too cheaply, you probably won't end up getting the car.

You can get the contact details of your trading partner by using the 'request contact details' form here:- http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/ebayadvsearch?_sofindtyp...
That usually solicits a phone number, then you can give them a buzz if you like.

Thanks all, I will be using the option to ask for contact details. I'm sure he could be selling the car over and over again for more money. I just don't understand why they don't put a reserve

Because that costs a lot more.

It's also far cheaper to advertise cars in the Parts section - but it's just far more expensive in fees if they sell.

The stupid bit is that a normal auction for a car sale - according to their list of fees - would be £8.70 to list, and then 0.9% fee on the sale price, but this is capped at £30.43. So that's £39.13.

There's no listing fee for a generic auction - like putting one in the parts section - but it should be a 10% fee and I believe the cap is £250, so in theory, they'll hit him for £250.

Just to follow up:
Car came up for sale today on a marque forum (lotus/seloc). While I still had no comments back on Ebay.
Left a comment about the very poor form, especially as I did ask "if you don't want to sell at this price, just tell me"

I got a very long story of lost ebay password, stolen phone, hacked emails and bank accounts.
It did smell like BS. That or karma got revenge in a big way.

Long story short, seller was a cheap skate, tried to save miney and wasted my time. Oh well, life goes on smile

reported to ebay with link to the new ad, just hoping they at least charge the fees in full

You can report them as a non-performing seller via ebays imo excellent customer support. The last time I reported someone for non-performance their account was closed.
