Ramadan Kareem

Coming back on subject. Tomorrow is day 5/30. A bit of a milestone. I do find it difficult, considering I am still training (riding/running/gym), but I guess it can only make me stronger.
Or push you into a collapse! Seriously, I admire your willpower. Is it healthy to keep pushing so hard? Are there any teachings that you should still ensure you can support your family, etc (a balance through Ramadan?)
Again a naive question, but I am learning from this thread and appreciate the replies to my daft questions.

For me, I usually train everyday, at least 2 or 3 times a day. Ideally I would love to take an entire month off and say it's Ramadan so I need a break.
Coming back to your question, the training is there, the motivation is there however the intensity is not as strong. For instance, today I was supposed to be doing 6*800m sprints @6minute (HR 165+) miling which turned into 6*800m sprints @7minute (HR 155) miling.
Last year whilst fasting, I managed to run 2 full marathons (3:30). Not sure I will be able to do that again though!
HTH.

Unbelievable the amount of willpower and commitment to see this through.
QQ , previous colleague did some 'extra' fasting can't remember if it was an extension of Ramadan or another time of year. Whats the thinking behind that ?
Maybe he didn't completely fast during Ramadan and wanted to make it up elsewhere ?QQ , previous colleague did some 'extra' fasting can't remember if it was an extension of Ramadan or another time of year. Whats the thinking behind that ?
Ramadam fasting... pffft - lightweights. Eating nothing but a tree for 10 years is the way to the afterlife...

Body is getting used to it now. Still off the pace when it comes to running though, although i am getting faster on the bike. I started last week on 60.7kg so will be interesting how heavy i am this week.
Another positive is that it really does clean up the diet. Before i was a coffee and biscuits man at eleven, but with the fasting the withdrawal from caffeine has been good and the removal of junk from the diet. I am having to sleep for a longer duration though.

Last 2 days was hard. Tuesday I had a major energy dip around 3pm and was hard work to stay awake. Ended up having a 'nap' at 5pm which lead to sleeping until 7:30 yesterday morning.
Managed to last until iftar which was a small salad then did 40km on the bike. Last 10 was a super slow battle as I ran out of energy.
Feel fine today so hoping stability has been achieved. Next week is going to be harder as I'm flying to uk sunday for a few days and the longer fast period coupled with the lure of a hotel full English is going to be a real test

The month after Ramadan has 6 optional fasts for the really dedicated.Interesting to note the recent trend for the 5+2 diet. Has been practised in the Islamic tradition for 1400 years (Prophet used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays, so they are also considered optional).
I'm sure I'm not as dedicated as you in the personal fitness stakes, but I find when I go for a run during Ramadan just before the sun sets, I often find myself feeling really light on my feet. It's a great feeling.
I try to avoid anything serious though (like a 90 over day of club cricket, as the last time I did that dehydration became an issue). I have no idea how you managed 2 marathons!

The hardest part was finishing them (started at 9:00am and finished at 12:30) knowing i had to wait 9hrs before i could have a drink. It was hot as well so managed to get a 2ltr bottle of coke with ice into the fridge/freezer. I certainly knew what being thirsty was truly like.I try to avoid anything serious though (like a 90 over day of club cricket, as the last time I did that dehydration became an issue). This year I don't really have the opportunity to try it again. Although I am doing the Tour of Cambridge this weekend i may just do 56miles instead of the 80m. I will be keeping a fast, just to prove to myself what is possible.

Such a trooper. These ladies will be pleased that you know what it's like to be truly thirsty. http://www.onewater.org/stories/story/walking_for_...
Round my way Ramadan is causing its usual crime wave.
Neighbours caught some Muslim guy in their villa last night, wrong couple to mess with and gave him a good kicking before the Police and local security arrived.
Friends (ironically one is a Muslim) had a car broken into whilst they were in a club earlier in the week. Window smashed, bag gone etc.
Lots of Police roadblocks and checks on the island as the thieving fkers will steal bikes (mopeds or push bikes) and try to get them out on the ferries to Java.
Tons of petty theft so they can get back to their hometown for Ramadan and give gifts to their families. Phone snatching, helmets being stolen etc etc....
Same story every year at this time.

Sounds a bit odd. Neighbours caught some Muslim guy in their villa last night, wrong couple to mess with and gave him a good kicking before the Police and local security arrived.

Ramadan is about peace with oneself. Trying not to sin.I have never seen anything like what you have described in any part of the world.

Bali. Happens every year.Ramadan is about peace with oneself. Trying not to sin.I have never seen anything like what you have described in any part of the world.
Part of Ramadan (n Indonesia) is also returning to your home town and impressing people by giving children gifts. So some (not all by any stretch) either choose not to go home or start nicking stuff to pay for travel and these gifts. Happens every year like clockwork.
The other one which is crazy is these people then think it's a great idea to drive massively long distances without eating or drinking anything all day in a hot country. The death toll on the roads (bad enough already) goes through the roof. Mental.

Remain careful with your belongings, the crime rate increase the month before the Ramadan. Everybody wants to go back home for this special occasion, the robbery rate is then much higher especially in Kuta area
