Ramadan Kareem
Discussion
It's actually quite fascinating to know that many people believe in the immortal, invisible and omnipotent astral being capable of creating space, time, laws of physics, all known matter and billions of galaxies containing billions of stars each, who sits now on one of those planets making sure his worshippers only consume food killed in a very specific way and only when that planet is turned toward a nearest star at a very specific angle.
All explained in a book full of advice on fashion diet and a specific vector of your body alignment towards the said star during prayers, which he sent to a tribe of illiterate goat herders some time ago.
And they all believe that without a trace of evidence, just because their parents were born in one community and not another.

Why does PH have a contingency of members who seemingly want to rubbish anyone's faith, beliefs etc with 'science says so'. I imagine said people look at Google for their facts and overhear/skim read then brow beat others with their half views.
Live and let live.
Fun fact - science works whether you believe in it or not, and had worked long before Google. Live and let live.
After all it is a public forum, not a Flat Earth Society Invitation Only secret group.

More than that, scientific consensus gets rubbished on here on the climate threads on a daily basis by virtually all 'contributors'.Live and let live.
The hypocrisy is beyond belief. Pun intended.
Someone makes a genuine well meaning thread and as usual the ignorant, close minded, Katie Hopkins lovers are too thick to realise that the belittling others doesn't make them anything than an annoying tts who really have no idea about the real world... Same idotic people people who ruin most threads in the news section-
If people have nothing good to say, why don't they return to the vile spouting threads in the news section and agree to jerk off each other there ..

On PH no one says science doesn't exist though. That's a key point. The hypocrisy is beyond belief. Pun intended.
The supernatural thread -its been ground down by people belittling others for belief or experiences with the same part-scientific knowledge.
I doubt anyone on PH who has any sort of real scientific knowledge posts bile against religious members etc. It's those who possess Google skills and what they heard.
Give it a rest. Faith is a beautiful thing

Fun fact - The originator of the scientific method was a devout Muslim. His writings and research took place 600 years before the enlightenment in Western Europe. After all it is a public forum, not a Flat Earth Society Invitation Only secret group.

The month of Ramadan would seem like an excellent opportunity for those of all faiths - and of none - to reflect on how we could work together to create a more tolerant and plural society
Indeed, I wish we could start focusing on how we are alike, instead of only on how we are different. In Christianity, for example in previous times fasting was also a part of faith. The idea of many of the celebrations we enjoy today are what used to be Catholic or Christian "feast days" Usually these were preceded by fasts. Lent being the most obvious example, where no meat could be consumed for 40 days. (Fish was allowed)
Is the Idea of Lent so very different to the idea of Ramadan ?
I know these "rules" seem ridiculous to some, but it is not the ACT of doing so that makes you religious, it is the faith behind it and the personal reflection during those periods of time.
I'm relatively well travelled, worked in a few Islamic countries and consider myself pretty open-minded for the most part, Mrs is Buddhist etc.
Standing outside a restaurant in Burma a few years back having a post meal smoke and one of the young waiters pops out for a chat asking various inquisitive background questions about me as you often get from the locals when they see a white face.
He asked me a question I've been asked many times previously "what religion are you?" - perfectly normal and nothing out of the ordinary there, however when I replied none, his knee jerk response was "oh, how sad" and the look on his face was one of concern that I have no religious faith.
It stopped me in my tracks, really made me think and prompted me to change the way I view people of faith. I still don't believe in any religion although I've attended many Buddhist ceremonies etc in the past few years on account of my Mrs' family and will continue to do so. I dig the teachings of Buddha from the small amount of reading I've done on the subject.
Anyway I digress.
Ramadan Kareem all.

What a load or nonsense. Starving yourself and rejecting your most basic instinct, especially for religious reasons.
Not everybody does it for religious reasons. I'm not particularly religious. It's more of a way of testing my self-discipline.HuntD said:
I advise anyone that does it to see a mental health doctor.
there are plenty of muslim psychiatrists who fast.HuntD said:
And support for this cult given the recent attack In Manchester, shame on you.
That's exactly what ISIS want you to think. The more hatred they can create for muslims (especially those living in the West) the happier they are and the more lunatics they recruit to carry out these attacks. And it's only the extremists that benefit.HuntD said:

I advise you to take a long, hard look at yourself and your disgusting outlook on the world. I advise anyone that does it to see a mental health doctor.
And support for this cult given the recent attack In Manchester, shame on you.
That was my personal view.
Now to put my Manchester hat on. We do not share your view. Islam is not a cult, Daesh is, wind your neck in and do one. Shame on you.

Well, that's one of the benefits of living in a free society - people can post their views on here (within the rules, of course). If you would like to live in a society where you can't do that, where other religions aren't tolerated (I'm atheist btw), women are treated like st and brutal capital punishment still exists, feel free to live in an Islamic country.
And it helps to identify the pathetic bigoted s. Free speech innit?
