I had one of those a few years ago, metzeler Z8's were my favourite at the time but they have been replaced by the 01 if you want the latest tyre.

If it were my bike I'd be fitting Pilot Road 4s.

Anything sports touring released in the last 5 years from a major manufacturer will be just fine.

No time to check just now, but I replaced the tyres on my R1100S last year and the PR4 was not recommended for this bike. May have changed between then and now. I got PR3s instead.

Continental Road Attack 2.

Mine has run Road Attacks and Pilot Road 3s, I preferred the Road Attacks.

PR4s are not recommended for the K1300S but I, like pretty much all the K1300S owners I know of, fit PR4s. We have 9 K1300Ss on the Old Gits trip next week and I'd bet at least 7 are fitted with PR4s

There are better sports touring tyres than PR4s in terms of grip, feel, and durability.

Personally, I have never rated the PR3 or PR4. Awful tyres that can rob a good bike of handling and feel. IMO.

Which are better in your experience?

In my experience, most other tyres feel better than the PR3/4 - and specifically the ones I have used since the PR4 launch: Metz Z8, Metz M7RR, Rosso3, SportSmart2, and even the ScorpionTrail2 which is an adv tyre on my GS (based on the AngelGT). I don't like the PR3/4 sipes that create movement on the tyre. But don't take my word for it: Motorrad.de 's comparison tyre test on touring tyres ranked the PR4 last in all categories - grip/wet/dry, cornering/feel, durability - against the latest (as of from Continental, Metzeler, and Dunlop. I used GoogleTranslate for this page - http://www.motorradonline.de/motorradreifen/motorr...

Personally, I'm keen to try the latest Conti RoadAttack3 which is just being released, or the MetzRoadtec01s which have been critically aclaimed since launch - Chris+Bob at FWR rave about the RoadTec01s and have nothing but praise for them.

PR4s were rated when launched several years ago, but have been significantly surpassed and improved on by others.

I would go with a Metzler or Pirelli Angel ST/GT.

I'm not going to "defend" the PR4 but when it comes to dry grip and feel, a number of the tyres you've highlighted are more on the sports side thus would give that extra feel and grip at the expense of wear and wet weather grip. Not a problem if wear rate is less of a priority and you don't ride much in the rain.

If a sports tyre is what is wanted then I would not recommend the PR4 but if wear rate is important (I do over 18,000 per year so wear rate is important to me) then the PR4 is one of the most popular ST tyres for a reason.

The grip and feel offered by the PR4 is well beyond the capabilities of most riders for road use and I've never found them wanting despite some brisk, enthusiastic road riding. I get well over 7k miles from each pair which I think is pretty reasonable for a bike weighing 250kgs (without the "substantial" rider on top) and with 175bhp and shaft drive.

You pays your money ...

With respect to wet grip and durability, the PR4 came last compared to the other comparable Touring tyres tested by Motorrad. As I said, the PR4 _was_ rated at launch, but times have moved on and there are far better equivalent touring tyres from all the major manufacturers today.

Fella I ride with who has what he calls 'the boat' Duke multistrada pikes peak just fitted them angel gt's and now swears by them. Road to Germany toured a 1000 miles, did the nurburgring and rode back with no issues. Was great dry weather there, shiny tarmac in places on track and horrendous rain all the way home

Obviously he wasn't silly in the wet but he said grip always felt good and there was good feel. Rear still looks good after 1800 miles so far

I run m7rr which are excellent but maybe a little too sport orientated for your purpose

I have the angel GTs on my bike and like them. They've felt good whether it's wet or dry, and seem to be lasting well so far.
