New Nissan Maxima
Discussion
Hi after buying a couple of Nissans for my wife I decided to take the plunge with one.
I wanted a 4 door sedan with a reasonable turn of pace and a reasonably luxurious interior. I had never seen a Maxima before, let alone the new shape, however after seeing one when dropping my wife's car in I quite liked it and took one out.
I am now the owner of an ex-demo Maxima. 300bhp (3.6l V6) so moves reasonably well and is reasonably luxurious. So far I'm quite pleased with it.

One for the 'cars you didn't know existed' thread I'd say!
As said, it is handsome, it looks a nice well speced machine.
This said, the reason they'll (presumably!) never market it in the UK is that the days of consumers wanting large/luxury sector cars from mainstream manufacturers has long passed. Never mind that you're getting a 5 series class car for 3 series or less money. Wrong badge....

Yes I know what you mean - I reckon the badge reduces its value by about 20k.
Its a nice car but perhaps not one for the image conscious - as you say it has the wrong badge.
I looked at lots of sedans but for the same spec I was buying an 8 yr old 7 series or A8 which can cost a lot to repair out here ! Nissans are pretty cheap to repair and parts are easy to get hold of, plus they gave me a 5 yr warranty with it. The wife has had a X-trail and now has a Pathfinder and they have been superb (reliability and aftercare from Nissan).

At £20K I'm not sure I'd care. That's new Astra money! Mind, I doubt they'd offer it at that price in Blighty....Its a nice car but perhaps not one for the image conscious - as you say it has the wrong badge.

Personally if someone offered me a Maxima or an Astra in the UK, the Maxima would be the choice.

Good looking big saloon at a bargain price. Thought it might share the Infiniti Q50 platform but looking at images I'd say there are too many substantial differences....
The Infiniti Q50 is on the same chassis as the Nissan Skyline and it's rear wheel or all wheel drive. The Maxima sits atop the Nissan mid-size front wheel drive platform. There's also the Teana, which got sold as Maxima in some countries. This new Maxima is rather a striking looking car. Makes the Infiniti look a bit frumpy....
