Oh, and on about the tenth night of me hovering over my wife whilst our son drank very little on the boob, I finally snapped because I could see exactly what was going wrong...
Don't know why you waited so long, I've found that conversation always gets welcomed... shoot

Another 3 months or so to go ...

Cleared out the spare 'box' room and now a blank canvas to make into nursery ...

Have decided to go with a flying / travelling theme. OH has has been showing me all sorts of videos of other mums and their nurseries - most of them are so boring and dull. Want to make ours bright and fun without spending silly amounts- have seen wall transfers etc on amazon that we will use .

When measuring up and trying to make the best use of space was surprised at the size of cot beds - take up a lot of room.

Fortunately family helping out a lot and have been pretty much been given a blank cheque from MIL to buy a pram etc. Reading lots and from advice on here we decided not to go down the 1k route of an all singing bugaboo etc but in true PH fashion are going to get the Recaro City Life Buggy at only £325 new.

We were fortunate to get a brand new boxed carry cot attachment for it (which we were not intending on buying) but found one on ebay for £30- The full store price is £125.

For car seat getting the Recaro Zero 1 Elite that should in theory last from birth to 3/4 years. Looks lovely and not cheap at £495 but doing man math sums, as long as it lasts for it's intended use it doesn't work out that bad..

Not going crazy on other items but two items definetly on our list is the Snuzpod and sleepyhead.

Getting a little anxious now but also looking forward to it.

We've just had a little man, arrived on Sunday. All good so far, amazed how I just fell into it. Its quite a natural reaction.

It's our first so don't have much in the way of advice for anyone, but read all the good stuff people have put on here - all I'd say is make sure you look after mum, she'll be doing a lot of the work, particularly if breast feeding.

Throw the baby books in the bin too.

Good advice. The "Wonder Weeks" book or app is the only one to keep. It doesn't give advice, it just shows their various development leaps and goes a LONG way to explaining different behaviour once you have ruled out the obvious stuff.

It was 100% right on out first and it's right so far on the second...

I was an expectant dad until my wife went into labour at home. I'm so glad we had the carpet replaced with lino in the bathroom before this. I delivered my daughter myself. Or at least with my wifes help! I was straight onto the ambulance service and the operator was great, talking me through things but there came a point when I just had to get on with it. All I can say is don't worry. It all comes naturally.

First little 'scare' this afternoon of the pregnancy. My wife is a teacher and this afternoon one of the kids at school has hit her reasonably hard in the stomach. Not cool at all. Cue a panicked phone call from my wife's boss saying that her colleague is taking her to the hospital to check up. Lucky I'm only at my normal office 20 minutes away.

Fortunately all is ok, wife just having an anti-d injection as a precaution as she is has a rhesus negative blood type.
Bloody hell mate, I'll keep everything crossed that she's ok, I'm sure she will be.
Indeed, thanks. All is fine, baby all fine and we've just enjoyed a decent amount of Thai food for a takeaway to help her feel better

School are dealing as they can of course. My rational brain knows that the child, aged 6, won't understand the consequences of what could have happened. But also... I just want to make sure the parents of that kid know what has happened and I worry that they will think that because nothing serious did happen, they don't need to do as much....

We brought our daughter home yesterday, the Greeks really look after the mothers here. My wife did nothing but feed the baby and relax for four whole days. It's been a totally different experience compared to the UK, there is no pressure on the mother to breast feed, take care of the baby and basically get sent home ASAP, not a single nappy was changed by us while there. Perhaps if it was our first baby we would want to be a bit more hands on but as it was our third we were happy to take a backwards step hehe.

My wife is in a much better place than when we had our last girl, a lot more relaxed and not in the slightest bit depressed.

Your best bet is just to go to a big mothercare or something and try them all out. See what fits you and your partner the best and what's in your budget. You don't have to get the car seat that's the same brand as the pushchair, most of the time you can get adapters.

We got a pram from mamas and papa's on their second hand refurbished range, they take them back from parents, give them a full service and them sell them again at half the price. Ours looks brand new apart from the wheels which have a slight scuff on them so it was well worth it as far as we are concerned. We then went for a Joie i-gemm car seat and isofix which fits onto the pram. Just go and try a load out and see which works for you, but don't feel like how much you spend is a reflection of how much you love your unborn child, they are all fairly similar.

^ Also had an incident with a child - head butting my partner in the stomach, by accident. 4hrs of baby heart beat monitoring (crazy how high it is, 200+ at some points) and the anti D. Got around 3 weeks to go now. Tick-tock.

Brought our latest arrival home yesterday. 9 pounds 9.5 ounces which came as a bit of a surprise!

Little boy to go with our 2.5 year old daughter. She's intrigued and jealous at the same time.

Sleep? What's that?

Shirley you must have friends with kids. Ask their advice. They may even have stuff they can give you. That's what we did and it saved a fortune. Most of the stuff you require will only be of use for a short while before you need to get something else. It's a real pain when you have finished with something and although it cost a lot, you have to hand it in to the charity shop. Hand me downs are the way to go.

We bought the My Babiie travel system (all in one car seat, cot, stroller) Ours is 7 months old next week and up till last month still fitted ok in the cot but she's too big for it now, still fits ok in the car seat but a little small yet for the stroller so we just use the car seat as a pram.

They're on offer sometimes, I think hey came down to £200 over summer:

http://www.mothercare.com/pushchairs/my-babiie-mb1...

I think the best/handiest things we've bought (so far!) are:

Tommee tippee perfect prep machine (godsend!!!!!!!)
Tommee tippee sterilizer kit (ours had collic for 3 months so we ditched the TT bottles for some Dr Browns and kept the old ones for juice/water)
Dr Browns bottles (brilliant) Mams were also good but she prefers Dr Browns
Lidl or Aldi nappies (Lidl seem better....Pampers are ste and leaked ste!!.....Morrisons & Asda were also good)
Lidl baby wipes & large pads
Asda baby grows
Asda Pyjamas
Matalan bibs (stretchy & really good)
Argos travel cot gets used a lot!

If you're an outdoorsy couple then it will be worth looking at pushchairs with big wheels. We went for a walk a while ago with some friends who have one with normal size wheels and had to carry it along a rough track, whereas we're about to take delivery of a Mountain Buggy Terrain which has 12" or 16" wheels depending on what you're doing with it. You can run with it too.

We have the mountain buggy terrain... it’s brilliant, though not the smallest. On 2nd child and it’s working well again. Well made, takes a lot of abuse and off-road.

Thanks everyone!

Looks like we're inheriting a Quinny pushchair and carrycot, which fits with a MaxiCosi car seat (that hopefully my future out-laws are going to buy, so that's one huge expense dodged...

IMO if you plan for a second child reasonably soon after the first (~2 yrs) buy a travel system which will carry two children seated

Just had 36week scan on Friday, all good, They said babys weight is 6.4 at the moment, and we have 3 weeks to go (C-Section)

had an argument with wife over weekend, regarding babies clothes, and trying to keep matching sets together.
not sure how long that will last. plus I was like why are we keeping 6-9months of clothes out, surely we should put them in a box somewhere until we are ready/
