It's nearly 30 years since my son was born.

My grandson is due on the 26th of December. I was a bit frightened when my son was due to be born but this arrival feels a more agreeable experience.

Age and experience lessens the fear and anxiety this time around

Congrats on the new arrival. My only advice for a grandparent would be to be prepared on how to look after a baby again, i'm 30 and my parents have a very different way of looking after babies & do's and don't compared to modern day ways of doing it so just be prepared for it as it's annoyed both me and my wife with how our parents just think because they did it this way 30 years ago it's acceptable now haha!

Our first child arrived 7 weeks early on 4th November. Total surprise she came so early, the wife had actually been out for a run and then to work for 6 hours whilst in labour!

Little Sophie weight 4lb at birth and still doesn’t weigh a lot more however she was allowed home with us at 2 weeks old which was 4-5 weeks earlier than the original estimate. She seems to be doing just fine though and is so cute.

She wasn’t cute last night though, lots of crying antics mean almost zero sleep for us.
Sophie is 4 weeks old today, not sure where the time has gone!

She’s still cute but not letting us have much sleep. I am back to work now too and I’m not finding 12 hour shifts that compatible with a new baby in the house.

She’s also just gone over 5lb in weight too.

As she must be so tiny. My sister's first was 2 months early and in SCBU in Swindon for a few weeks. Shes 6 now and totally awesome but I remember just how delicate and tiny she seemed for a long while.

Ours is just over 3 weeks old and he's a healthy 8 1/2 lb already, though the barmaid in the pub still called all her colleagues over to look at the "tiny baby" the other day.

Sleep is a nightmare, I'm struggling to work out how much I ought to be doing and balancing that with how much sleep I need to be able to get to work for 6am and not be horribly dangerous. Partner had a C Section as well which makes it impossible to just let her get on with it (not that that's really my style anyway).

She's not really sleeping in the day at all, at least not until I get home, so we're still splitting the night shift fairly evenly as long as she can express enough for me to do at least one good feed.

He's dead cute though and there's nothing more relaxing than him snoring away all warm and cosy on my chest. So it's all good.

Indeed. Eldest took 3 1/2 years to sleep through. Youngest still not (bar one night) at 2 1/2. So 6 years.

My daughter was born last night at 17:52 weighing in at 6lbs 6oz. The Mrs had her waters broken at 3cm dilated and within the hour baby arrived.... Very nearly on the floor..!!

Both doing well and we're hopeful they will be home today. Buzzing 😊

Congratulations! Same birth weight as our daughter, pretty dinky right?

She's 14 months old now, still feels surreal to me to think I'm actually a father....so if you're anything like me, don't over think it, take it one day at a time and enjoy it, and the sleepless nights, try not to stress, you will make it out the other end, no matter how dark and bleak it may feel at the time.

Thanks Gary and yeah she's a little dot.

She's actually number 3 for me but no 1 and 2 are now 20 and 16 so I feel so far out of touch it's like having my first one.... I'm hoping it'll all come flooding back

Congratulations all on your new arrivals !

Now week 16 for me and my partner sent me a video recording of the heartbeat at the midwife appointment yesterday so assume all is okay at present.

One question i do have is about these U pillows for other half. She is struggling with sleep and comfort and i usually sleeps on her back which we have heard is not great so i am waking up constantly rolling he rover making sure she is on her side.

Any recommendations at all , are they worth it even ?

Congrats!

I would say that the comfier and more relaxed your Mrs is the better for the baby. Mine currently uses a teddy dog between her knees when sleeping on her side. Sometimes she is on her back.

I would say the fancy U pillows are a marketing gimmick, just use whatever makes her the most comfortable - pillows, rolled up blankets, anything.

We (or rather she) went through 3 or 4 different pillows. Eventually she physically couldn't lay on her back as she could feel herself being crushed under her own weight hehe

The best pillow was probably a really long (5foot-ish) u-shaped one, which she just sort of spooned.

We're at 7 weeks old this week, still feeling really lucky on the sleep front as we're generally only being woken once per night - and had a fair few "sleep-throughs" already including one last night. Expecting it all to come crumbling down any moment...

Not looking forward to the house full of tat we'll have on the 25th, I get the feeling that everybody is going mad on crap for a 2 month old baby...

Little hint, if you can, ask family and friends to get you 9-12, 12-18 etc clothes.

You will be swamped in new born 0-9 etc. useful sizes are for ones down the road!

yeh literally this we got a ton of clothes from friends & family friends with same gender babies so we actually haven't bought a single item of clothing for 3 months now and have 6-12 months clothes at the ready. I took a full bin bag of girls clothes to a charity shop the other day and some still had labels in we'd been given but wrong season for the size for us.

after a certain point of pregnancy women aren't meant to lie on their backs anyway as the weight/shape can cut off blood supply to certain parts of the body.

My partner had dreadful back pain, hip pain and everything else. I bought her a Dreamgeniie pillow which is a big half moon with a little extra bit for back support.

Best thing I bought all pregnancy, used constantly (along with about 8 other varying pillows and cushions) and is still proving really useful as a comfy breast feeding support.

16 Weeks here too. Will be investing in a special pillow soon.

Well Black Friday was not cheap for me.

Bought facebook portal for my folks so they can keep in touch with the wee man and wave at him every other day, but attached to one of their supermassive TVs to help aging eyes.

Got a mini robot looking thing (ibaby M7)... we don't need a baby monitor, but as its holiday season I wanted a video one cause little H won't be asleep in the next room he will be on the other side of the property when visiting folks... this is a plug and play device that just needs wifi, been told the camera is excellent.

https://fathercraft.com/ibaby-baby-monitor-reviews...

Now on to more serious stuff... We are having a hard time getting him to sleep (4.5 months) hes in sleep regression were hes moving from newborn sleep (pass out wherever) to adult sleep (a couple of light sleeping modes), the issue is that as soon as he is put in the cot, all hell breaks loose... soon as you pick him up hes out cold (literally seconds), then rinse and repeat until he's so knackered he doesn't care/notice anymore... help!!

Also OH has such a bad back, its now at the stage where she needs to get a massage once a week and is doing exercises twice a day, but obviously having to hold a clingy little H most of the day means that its very slow improvements... any advice?
