My partner has been picking up a few bits from Facebook market place - this weekend we are collecting a prep machine that has been used for a couple months and a brand new sealed in the box ewan the sheep ( whitenoise thingy) .
Good effort! Facebook market place really has some bargains on it it's crazy how cheap things are! richatnort said:

Too crazy if you ask me! I guess there is so much of this stuff, it's a race to the bottom. Cannot believe the prices people sell stuff for.We have some stuff that we're looking to sell, decided to donate instead as it's not worth the time to get £10 back for £100+ item.
We managed to get a full nursery furniture set (chest of drawers with changing table top, 3 height cot bed, wardrobe) for £180. Mamas and papas, so it’s OK quality, but the previous owners really took care of it. Not a scratch and they took it apart really carefully, bagged all the bits and even had the instructions!
Followed that up with a used uppababy vista pram for about £360. Few years old (2016), but had had some new replacement bits and barely any marks on it. Came with that basket thing, car seat, foot cover thing and rain covers. It did have dodgy wheel locks on the front that would work of their own accord... but Youtube to the rescue and I was able to sort both mechanisms in about 20 mins. Tightened up a few more bolts and basically it’s good as new. MiL has took it away to give it a thorough clean with a steamer!
Both from Facebook market place. I feel like we got lucky. Or we live in a nicer area than I thought!

Yep, nursery furniture is silly cheap second hand. I managaed to bag a decent size wardrobe and matching chest of drawers/changing table, albeit with a small amount of wear and tear, for £20. It also came with a rocking nursing chair/foot stool that was originally about £200 in the shops! We couldn't believe our luck. The only reason we didn't take the cot too was that it didn't turn in to a toddler bed, so we left it and bought a brand new one to the spec we wanted. Plenty of bargains online
Anyone any books, websites or general advice for taking the dummy away. Been great up to 6 months but we feel the waking up 4 times a night to plug the dummy is becoming tedious so we think maybe if we can get her to self sooth herself we might be onto a winner but the last few days we have tried stuff doesn't seem to work and me and the Mrs are at logger threads.
Save our sleep is quite good. I've read it but wife refuses to let little one self soothe so effectively a paperweight atm.

Doesn't 'the book' deal with that? I'm sure there's a chapter on that somewhere; not got the book to hand as I write this. Might have to do the 'stay and comfort' thing for a while as she learns not to have a dummy?Gallons Per Mile said:

'The book' does but it's about a paragraph and that's it which isn't helpful at all. We've basically gone cold turkey a bit and using the stay and support technique of hand on back, making shh noises and rubbing her face to settle her but been 3 days now and I don't like it basically so want to change something if possible!Does "the book" tell the dear darling little child that night time is usually for sleeping, and the day time is usually for waking?
One month in and mine still has those 2 crossed over. Daytime, sleep for 2 hours, or lie and quietly watch the world. Night time, wake up within 2 minutes of being put down, no matter how asleep he is when you put him down. Give up on the idea of proper sleep for us, and let him settle on our chests - feeding every hour, nappy every hour, waking and grumbling every hour, garh! - Even doing the head in of PG Jr1!
Sorry, 5/7, no swearing, try harder next time.

we seem to be having a pretty easy time of it with the sleeping. we’re 7wks in and over the weekend got an 11:30pm to 6:30am sleep! we kinda panicked and wondered if something was wrong. but seems to be managing to sleep 11ish till 5/5:30.
she seems to struggle to poo in her sleep tho. generally wriggles, groans, moans while still sleeping for an hour or 2 until she gets it out. i seem to be able to sleep thru most of the noise unless she makes one loud scream, but the mrs can’t sleep thru as much.
although I had an amazing morning on saturday. baby had a feed 6:30-7, started making noise again about 8, so I took her out the room to let mum get a long lie. then decided we should go out and get some stuff done- got her ready (while still fast asleep) and headed out a walk, to the bank, then stopped off for breakfast, she woke but was fine, changed her, fed her, picked up flowers for mum, then headed home with breakfast for mum. It felt really good to just get out and about with her on my own. thankfully where we live is really baby friendly, loads of cafes/ restaurants/ hotels etc..... that we can walk to and plenty space/ facilities for prams/ babies/ children. plus if it all goes wrong i’m only ever 10mins walk back to home/ mum

This is what im looking forward to doing when my one arrives - being able to do everything myself and getting out and about, giving my partner some time to recuperate etc. and myself some time to bond and learn about the little one. I also live about 5 minute walk into town so can abort the mission at any time if i am struggling ! she seems to struggle to poo in her sleep tho. generally wriggles, groans, moans while still sleeping for an hour or 2 until she gets it out. i seem to be able to sleep thru most of the noise unless she makes one loud scream, but the mrs can’t sleep thru as much.

That is a PITA 4 times a night just to put a dummy back in. Try multiple dummies in the bed she will hopefully find one herself and put it back in. As for completely removing it I found with our two they did it themselves our son had one for years only at night but it meant 10 hours of undisturbed sleep so we went with it until he announced they are for babies and that was that.
Little one still has one at 3 for probably 15 minutes to fall asleep no sign of it in the morning.
With regards to dummies: last year i waited for the other half to go on holiday for a week then threw the youngest's dummies in the bin.
Cried the first night for a bit but then was fine.
I threw them out to stop.me getting tempted to give in, and i had to wait until she had gone because she is far too soft on the youngest.
