Hi chaps

We are expecting our 2nd in a few months and our son will move to the front passenger seat. But I'm confused about whether the airbag should be enabled or not. He will be 3 soon and sits in a fairly bulky seat (Joie Every Stage FX). I'm minded to leave it on to prevent the worst but at the same time, apparently the impact from the airbag alone is quite powerful for an adult, let alone a child confused

As for those who couldn't attend scans, see if the scan operator will let your partner video call you next time.
This may sound like a stupid question but why can't you just leave him in the back?

Not enough space for 2 car seats and an adult at the back

I think you need to switch off the airbag for anyone under 12.

I remember on my XKR the airbag was automatic and would turn off when my petite wife would sit on it

checking back in here...

Mrs CT has approx. 5.5 weeks left and things are starting to get real with a lot of her friends/acquaintances who are also pregnant delivering anywhere from 1-6 weeks early and has got me thinking it could be any time now.

Any thoughts/advice on the current hospital situation are welcome, along with any "must haves" to take along with me (if im permitted in with the current rules that is...)

Cheers,

My wife is getting induced tomorrow but she's 41 weeks now so I wouldn't be too convinced baby will come early.

I'll report back the hospital situation once we're home. All I know is I can't be there for induction but once labour starts I can.

Other half had our first 2 weeks ago and i wasnt allowed in until labour had started.. Best of luck with everything, it is a very strange time indeed to be having babies.

Hope it all goes well. Our daughter is 7weeks now, and had arrived 2 weeks before her due date. Of the 8 in our NCT, 7 delivered earlier than due date which is pretty odd given the stats.

I'd check where you're planning to give birth, at the maternity unit near us I was allowed to go in with my wife before she was assessed but the place was empty so not sure if that was a case of compassion and ignoring the rules. We had to go to the hospital for the birth in the end, I had to wait until she'd be examined and admitted before I was allowed in (she was 3-4cm dilated) to give birth in a birthing unit (aka hospital room) but we had it to ourselves. I was there from ~11am and our daughter was born just after 21:00. The midwives dragged their feet with paperwork etc and it wasn't until gone midnight that my wife was taken to the ward and I had to leave.

It also seems that they aren't keen on keeping mum + baby in the hospital very long if there isn't a serious reason for them to be there. Our daughter had done her first poo pre birth, which meant they had to keep observation for at least 12hrs. They were discharged 13hrs after the birth - something again that others in our NCT group noticed.

Well my wife had our daughter 3 weeks ago now

Ended up getting an emergency section - My wife is high risk with a blood issue she has and it has caused her to have 2 MCs over the passed to years but glad to say this was fully successful.

It was a strange situation, I was in for the full labour which was 12hours then they decided she needed a section, I was in for the section and literally 45mins after the section I had to leave due to COVID19 and so on and never got to see them again for 3 days, it was hard but it least they were both OK.

My wife is in being induced now and apart from a walk around the car park every night with her, I’ve not been allowed in. When she goes to the labour ward in a few hours I will be allowed to go in.

As for what to take, the usual things but some nice toiletries for her to feel good as it could be days, some snacks something to do, chargers, phones etc just took some orange squash last night as only drinking water was getting a bit boring

Very excited as hopefully in the next 24 hours for us

This is almost indentical to the birth of my son .. Allowed in once she was 3-4 cms dilated ( 3 days of labour at home) Spent 24 hours in a room with her to dilate another 1cm realised that baby was in an akward position with cord around neck rushed in for c section then had an hour tops to change his first nappy feed him and have his bloods taken before i had to leave - spent 4 days waiting to see them again but now they are currently both snoozing on the sofa. Was such a long labour of 4 days to then be rushed in i was overwhelmed and emotional to say the least.

Thanks for the stories fella's, looks very similar to what I'd read a few months ago - I was quietly hoping it was relaxed somewhat, but sadly looks like no joy.

Congratulations to all recent dads, im sure even the most stone-like would feel emotional in these situations but as long as everyone is healthy, the rest of our lives are available and no-one will begrudge the loss of a few days in the long run.

Best of luck, sounds like you have a decent hospital. Ours tried to keep my partner at home for as long as possible. I believe that our partners actually relax more in hospital, with all the checks they can do to make sure everything is okay, and mentally prepare to give birth there rather than waiting at home getting stressed and uncomfortable.

We were walking around the communal car park at home for 3 days looking like mad people too.

She's in hospital because we are older parents and baby has to be born by Sunday or it's a C section due to the risk being higher

Gong in to the labour ward in 1 hour so getting excited and nervous

Baby boy born this morning at 6lb 14oz by emergency C section. Mum and baby are tired but well.

I’ve been here 22 hours now and the staff have been amazing. Have not left due to wife having high blood pressure and she’s not gone to the post natal ward yet.

So happy !!!

Congrats to all the new dads!

My daughter is 6 months old today, and I’m so lucky to have been furloughed and spent the last 3 months with her every day watching her grow and change into a little person.

She quite simply is the perfect baby, barely ever cries, sleeps 8pm-6am and has done since 10 weeks old. Literally no trouble at all, and is providing so much entertainment for us, especially now we’re weaning her.

Congratulations everyone. Even though my youngest is now 21 months, I still dip in now and again to read the stories and experiences and it never fails to cheer me up. Even when the little bugger had me up for an hour in the night.

Our gorgeous little girl was born on Saturday at 4.10am weighing 7lb 6oz.

Mrs had to go in for an induction and ended up with a drip but she was unreal. From the start of labour to her having our little girl on her chest was 8 hours 10 with only gas and air. I was in awe of her from start to finish. Turns out baby was back to back too which made things harder but she smashed it.

I really think hypno birthing helped massively she was mobile throughout which seemed to help speed up the labour.

Now she’s just over 48 hours old it’s really hard to see how much she’s feeding we’ve had 3 awful nappies which is good but it’s hard to tell if she’s been weeing or not. Any advice from dads about this?
