Son arrived, all good
1000 % perfect
Wife had a terrible time unfortunately.
Forceps required
Lost massive blood.
Taken to theater for 3 bloods
Struggling yo hold her wee, as in cant.
In oud out of hospital for multiple catheters.
Incompetence at high level insertion, in ureatha.
Now home with catheter out, but needing mega pads and nappies.
So sad for her.

Congratulations, both safe and relatively unharmed is the main thing.

Unfortunately I think incontinence and other injuries resulting from vaginal births are common, but not discussed for obvious reasons.

I don't feel like it's raised pre-birth as a possibility by midwifes either, possibly they don't want everyone going for c sections.

From our friends I think at least 20% had some sort of issues.

I agree.
But we should have been more prepared for the "out of the norm"
Quite shocking to see a 3 meter diameter of blood and placenta over the floor.
The 4 wheels of the bed were almost completely covered in blood splatter.
I did my bit by standing strong, and getting the chord cut.

Holy moly yikes

Congrats on the arrival of R1Jr and best wishes to Mrs R1 for a speedy recovery (not that telling her some guy on the internet said that will mean much!).

We are having the debrief next week.
Half stayed in, half torn out.
Shocking to see.

Blimey, no words! Wishing her the very best. A timely reminder of what could happen, as much as we all of course hope for a straightforward outcome. It does weigh on me, how my better half will react when the time comes to evict no.2 in a few months, as the first time out was a bit of an ordeal (not to the same extent, I hasten to add), and I think she'll be very apprehensive. All I know is, it won't be the same.

Just thought i'd add an update. My daughter (still feels weird saying that!) was born on the 29th January just after midnight. We arrived in hospital on the 23rd to be induced but after 3 attempts of various methods the midwives gave up and decided on the Friday to burst her waters manually. After 2 more days of waiting (6 days in hospital by this point) we finally got a space on the labour ward but after 11 hours of contractions my wife had only dilated by a further 0.2cm so the doctors decided to do a C section.

I got scrubbed up and 30 mins later or so and my daughter was born. Considering i'm very squeamish and usually pass out at the sight of blood I was absolutely fine in the operating theatre. I even got involved with cutting the cord and had a sneaky look as they were sowing her back together although I slightly regret that as it was disgusting biggrin.

Just over 2 weeks on and we're doing ok although our daughter seems to have got her day and night mixed up as she sleeps all through the day and as soon as 1am arrives she wakes up and won't settle for a few hours. We did have one scare when she was having trouble breathing, Rushed into hospital for her to fix herself as we walked through the door. After a few hours monitoring the doctors declared her clear and suggested she probably just had a blocked nose which cleared itself!

We made it, our little boy was born in the early hours of Saturday morning. Mum & baby are doing well. Few scares around infection and his breathing but everything is now looking good. Fingers crossed he can stop his antibiotics and go home tomorrow.

Hospital has been a bit of a mixed bag at times but without doubt we have encountered some amazing midwives, nurses, doctors along the way. So many people work incredibly hard.

Found this thread really helpful reading back over old posts thanks to those that have shared their experiences and various tips. Now the real fun starts !!

Congrats chaps!

Our twins will very soon be 2, I have no idea where that time has gone! Try to take a minute to enjoy it every now and again.

Congratulations to the new additions.

Currently abroad with my 18 month old and nearly 4 year old. As others have said, time certainly goes quick watching them grow up.

Holidays are the best though. It may be exhausting non stop parenting but spending the day in pool and the kids club is massively rewarding. Get those holidays booked in before they get to school age!

Congrats to Fiatpower and Phil.

I've been so busy with work I forgot to ping the thread.

Just remember - This (first year) is just the easy part.

Congrats indeed.

Safe to say the miserable life continues since the nursery started ( nearly 9 months now?). Every time one cold finishes another one begins. It's hopeless, not to mention piling up costs of missing nursery days.

I provide this info to help not to gloat. Since we made the move (just checked with SWMBO) our little boy hasn't had a sick day for ill health. (obviously the two trips to a&e didn't help the situation but those were done at home and were impact injuries).

That's 8 months of good health now. He has been a bit 'off' a couple weekends where he has not been himself but that's all we can recall

As posted previously the nursery did get a bout of norovirus but it arrived on a Friday and he is in four days a week so missed it through chance only.

The reference point is being in Manchester and being sick almost all the time for four months of the year (us and him).

My friends and family in the UK have been so ill with various things that this past year must have been some sort of record in my extended friends and family.

Iirc 9 months in was where the colds started to reduce in frequency, hopefully you are at the tail end of it.

For us nursery was a hotbed of infection the whole way through. I was dreading school, thinking it would be worse. 6 months and nearly a winter through it’s been fine. Nothing to mention apart from a couple of light colds.

I haven't checked in here for a while. I haven't checked my last post here but it was the early days of fatherhood, the chaos, the emotions, the feeling of being lost, alone, useless and probably questioning how I'd manage.

Today... just back from Glentress running red trails with my now 6yr old little boy then home to be bossed around by my precocious 3yr old little girl, who absolutely rules the household. Wife and I are hanging on in there, now glad the kids aren't so reliant. Demanding, yes. Reliant, less so. Plus both now do school / nursery etc etc.

Reading the posts from the now new dads... it feels like a lifetime ago that that was me, but the reality is the time has flown in. My advice to new dads, don't wish the time away... don't say "It'll be easier when they're walking / talking / at school / married" Embrace your time, maximise your time as all too soon, it'll be a memory.

Stick in gents.

It was like that with my boy, too. He spent more time with a cold/cough/runny nose than without but it seemed to improve just before getting to school. He's now in year 1 (so 2nd year) and I can count on one hand the number of times that he's been off ill. The kids that didn't go to nursery always seem to be off, even now.
