What would you spend the money on? Other than the obvious billionaire toys (superyacht, Veyron, Learjet, private island, etc)

For me, I'd commission a full on replica Spanish Galleon, kept as authentic as reasonably possible (but obviously with proper mod-cons, I wouldn't want to pick up scurvy while travelling the high seas smile)

In a similar vein I'd also build a proper medieval castle.

I'd also have a massive hangar full of various cars which have taken my fancy over the years. So a few supercars, but plenty of 'ordinary' stuff in there, possibly even the chavved up Mk1 Focus I wanted (but thankfully never went for) when I was younger hehe Obviously the hangar would be next to my own private track so I could enjoy them all.

I really like a good old castle, building a new one in traditional materials but with all mod-cons would be spectacular.

There someone in France doing that, it's not a quick build though!

Picking up on something from the HMS Queen Elizabeth thread,
I would launch a Naval Museum in Liverpool

I would invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities.

Wow, that looks pretty awesome.

However, I'd be an impatient billionaire. I'd still use traditional materials, but they'd have modern equipment to speed up construction.

I'd keep £100million for myself and try to use the rest helping people who need it.

My friend's son recently had to use crowd-funding and other ideas (charity concerts etc) to raise £100K for his son to get treatment in the US as the NHS would not pay. Fingers crossed, he had the op a couple of weeks ago and it looks like a success so far:

Would be great to be able to change lives like that. With £900million you could do a lot.

£100million for me would be a crazy amount, more than I would ever need. Yep, there's the whole private island thing but why would I want that when I could go anywhere in the world, and stay anywhere in the world whenever I fancied it anyway?

Yep, I'd buy a suitably epic cliffside location in Cornwall, blatantly bung the planning permission folks and build something like this (might take quite a few billion):

Obviously all the features would be present including caverns, dungeons, high tower, throne room etc. The only concessions to modernity would be excellent plumbing, electricity, super high speed internet and a recording studio. I could then devote my leisure time to some truly Roman scenes of debauchery.

I'd commission a private yacht much like this:

Of course it would have backup diesel engines, it wouldn't leak and would have all the latest safety gear but otherwise much the same. Of course the cannons would be fully functional should one ever desire to go on a Somalian cruise.

Then I think a small carribean island, a ski chalet in the alps, a modest car collection and I'd be about there. Oh and of course lots of food, drink and pleasurable company.

I'd have a quaint little farm somewhere halfway between the Ring' and Spa, converted barn with lifts, proper tools etc. barn filled with cars that take my fancy including E60 M5, E46 M3, NSX, R34 GTR, S15 Silvia with a 1JZ, AE86, 911 GT3 RS. With a few project cars that take my fancy.

The castle idea is one I've always thought of, build something like this in the Welsh hills

I wouldn't even pack a bag just set off and travel the world, for a good few years at least. There's so much I'd like to see, and not just for a week at a time.

Through the poorer parts I'd gift money to those in real need of it as I went.

I like the cut of your jib. Actually the jib hadn't been invented at the time of Spanish galleons, but still. They were not hugely safe to sail, get on a lee shore in a blow and chances are you would sink. The lack of a jib was partially responsible, together with the massive windage of the high fore and after castles, and the round bottom designed to maximise cargo space. I would go for a Trafalgar era frigate myself, more seaworthy, with more cannon.

Sounds like it would be wasted on you, where is the fun in doing that?

Is a billion not enough to stop worrying about making money!

it wouldn't change me at all, I would still be a the tt I am today, but in my own jet full of coke and hookers.

I'd spend some time thinking about it, maybe ten seconds or so, then I'd walk out the front door, lock it and never visit this st hole of a country again.
