Having traveled fairly extensively I'd shortlist it to the following:

New Zealand
Canada
Switzerland
Norway / Sweden
Australia

I would say that, in my opinion, The UK is up there too (top 10) but the USA is not.

I haven't travelled extensively but from your shortlist ,I really like Sweden but am saddened by the "Can we talk about Sweden"

thread which seems to highlight a fair few problems they have.

The only downside with Norway is it rains a lot. If it had better weather it would be my number one I think.

Traveled extensively and continue to travel for work. America is my favourite place, it's just got all the stuff I love. I don't get the fuss about Sweden, it's alright if you like hellishly expensive taxis and beer.

There's nowhere like home. Everywhere I go I always feel like I've returned to civilisation when I get back to the UK despite all of its faults. We've got a lot to love on this little island and being so close to Europe is an added bonus, we've got an awful lot on our doorstep.

I travel a fair bit and in all honesty despite all of its faults the US is the only country that I would emigrate to, but there'd have to be a big incentive.

Not sure why Norway and Sweden are lumped together.
Would you have put UK/Irish Republic?

No shouts for Iceland?

My top 5 would be (out of the ones ive actually visited)

Australia
UK
Switzerland
France
Sweden

Love Iceland but the lack of a real summer and endless darkness in winter would drive me mad I think. That and it's ludicrously expensive.

I've traveled a fair bit, but not for a couple of years now.

Love Canada and Australia, thought Japan was crazy as is most of Asia.

Genuneily though I've never found anywhere I've wanted to live more than the UK for now, and France maybe in a few years.

Can I offer Estonia?

Low population density

No H&S BS

No Pc BS

Great sense of social responsibility, no litter, chewing gum dog st and most involved in some way in defense.

Great public transport

Great social care i.e they don't just give money away, but look after those who need it.

Hot women in surplus to men

Good driving roads (if a little flat in places).

I lived in Canada for a year but wouldn't rate it that highly. Japan is a wonderful place one of the few places in the world that I could love

I love the US, in particular the south west California/Arizona/Nevada area, although the locals can spoil it there are plenty of places around that you don't have to mix with them smile

I also like Austria but haven't been sine 1986

Good list but...
Sweden has been committing suicide in slow motion for several decades now. We're copying them, as is much of Europe.

To add:
Japan is great.
The USA is great.
