I haven't visited a lot of places, but the US would definitely not be in the top 5 for me.

I have a real fondness for Spain, although I would not live there.

Weighing it up, I am best suited to the UK and am not sad about living here at all.

Have plans one day to climb Mt fyffe and get a shot from up there.
Also need to shoot some seascapes at kaikoura with the new shore line.
All I need is some free time lol

Kaikoura is a stunning part of the world, and the whalewatching trip I did was probably one of the most enjoyable parts of almost a month in NZ. However, it's also a one-horse town that is very heavily touristed (albeit with a great chip shop - at the top end of town, next to the highway junction).

Lol it's a field with trees around the edge - that could be absolutely anywhere in the world. What's so special?

Nah. It's pretty good actually. Anyone trying to convince themselves otherwise is a miserable bd who would complain wherever they go.

Apart from short days in winter. That's just wrong and horrible.

I don't live in the U.K. i have spent far too much time in Salford. But there are so many great areas.

Bits of England/Britain are truly cr*p, but that's true of every single country in the world. However, the vast majority of this place is pretty bloody fantastic compared to almost everywhere else in the world. The balance of what we have here is almost unique in the context of the rest of the planet.
As I said earlier, it's always the people who have seen least of the world who decry the state of Britain. I'd much rather listen to people who have real experience of the world; and they are almost always very positive about our fair isle.

Auckland does have a bit of a problem with housing being overpriced.
4th highest prices in the world vs income, London is 12th, New York 21st.

Nudging £600k median but if you want a decent view in a nice area it'll be closer to £1 million
wow - why is that? (yes I understand supply and demand but do jobs pay highly? foreign investors?)

Yes, I would say that myself. And seeing as he has hardly given us any quantifiers for his hatred, I shall assume he is merely trolling for attention and impact.

For sure there are nice bits of the UK, however as someone who only goes occasionally to the mainland UK, it does feel like it's losing its charm and character. Large swathes of the country just seem really dull and dreary. What's happened to the urban landscape - people paving over their fking gardens?

Agreed. Close to the bottom of my list, and places I avoid other than to transit through. Horrible plastic people and place.
