It's a very deliberate retailing ploy by the supermarkets. The chances of any Christmas goodies surviving in the buyer's cupboard until December 25th are slim, so multiple purchases of the same item happens and happens a lot.

Also it helps to price establish stuff for sixty days now so they can flog it throughout November and December at the "special offer" price for which it has been manufactured. The half an aisle in store now is called a "capsule launch" in which they merchandise all the stuff for which suppliers have agreed promo plans in the run up to Xmas.

And having been "that" kid at school who had the £4 football boots, no brand (ok, branded but Deks and Sizzlers aren't proper brands!) trainers and £15 anorak from the market there's no way my boy is going through the emotional anguish I had to put up with!
I can understand and fully support this stance as I too was subjected to Nicks trainers and the like as a kid and had the pi55 taken out of me big style. My two lads will never have to put up with the cr4p I had to.

It's a slippery slope - I recall friends of mine labelling up their kids in 'designer' gear, and by the age of 12 they were refusing to wear anything unbranded. No doubt they were also the ones ribbing unbranded kids at school for being 'poor'.

Naturally the same kids now have an astonishing level of entitlement as adults, and will no doubt be bemoaning the fact that it is everyone else's fault that they can't afford houses on their iPhone X's whilst on holiday in Ibiza having driven to the airport in their brand new PCP'd 'prestige' cars very soon. smile

Yup, "Tesco Two Stripe" as it was known at my school, as that was what was shouted by any of the knobheads towards the wearer of said gear.

Nicks! I'd completely forgotten about having a few pairs of those over the years!

I remember being proud as punch when I finally managed to step up a level to Patrick football boots.

Also, yes I well understand the foreboding projection above regarding spoilt kids turning into unbearable adults but I like to think that my son is a very kind and caring young lad. If he ever started showing signs of becoming a bully he knows I would fire his butler in a heartbeat...

Duly noted.

As an aside - and off context a little.

Anyone who proclaims themselves to be the mad one in the group, or has a sign saying 'mad house' in their home...or puts those bloody minion quotes up on social media about being 'crazy'...... generally means they are anything but.

They are just a slightly louder sort of tedious.

Agreed - Home schooling is the only non-council thing to do.
