Finally someone understands what "so" means. Far too many people don't know it's actual meaning and just assume that it is an Americanism when used correctly. So some people correctly use it as a conjunction to include previously supplied information (or to avoid going over it again).

Indeed, but very rarely (if ever) would it be appropriate to start a discussion or answer to a question with such a conjunction.
