That's what I'd have thought, but it does seem to be a thing now. Lots of reports of it being done.

Lots of nonsense reports of burglars marking pavements and gate posts with chalk symbols a while ago that were apparently to (inexplicably) pass on security information to other burglars.

Just because it's widely spread by the 'don't think just share' brigade as a 'thing' doesn't necessarily make it true.

It is true, I've seen it first hand. Not necessarily to remove the lock but they melt holes in UPVC doors and open the door as the homeowners have left the key in the lock on the inside.

Normally houses with nice motors on the drive. It is most definitely an MO that's on the increase.
