Cash in large amounts (as in literal, physical 'cash') is thread-qualifying, IMO.
Yep.

I'll never forget, 20-odd years ago, I was part of the management team opening a new car supermarket business.

Around 7 o'clock on evening, a very nervous, scrawny young scrote approaches me, head darting about as if MI5 were after him, and asks how much the Golf GTi across the other side of the building was.

"Seventeen thousand, five hundred pounds", I courteously replied.

At which he determinedly thrust forward a tatty old supermarket carrier bag. Containing the correct amount.

We had him on his way in less than half an hour laugh

As someone who lives relatively close to the Freemasons Arms (and whose Dog is on first-name terms with the Head Chef's) Wiswell and the surrounding environs are probably as far from Council as it's possible to get whilst remaining in the North West.

Picadilly Gardens and Bolton pah.

You haven't gone full council until you've been to Wigan. Or Leigh, which must be the only place where people aspire to live in Wigan.

Lots of cash means you're either dodging income tax or can't be trusted with a debit card IMO.
Or, it could just mean you prefer to take cash out of your account and spend that rather than give your bank details to everyone.

I always take cash out, it is a better way for me to track my spending. I have no overdraft, no credit card, and no debt thank you very much.

That doesn't make me an income tax dodger or drug dealer.

You've sort-of agreed with him though?

Spending with a debit or credit card doesn't give your bank details to anyone.

And cash is a terrible way to track spending. Take £100 out of your account and spend it in 6 places and all your statement will show is a single £100 transaction.

Exactly.

Not forgetting using a credit card can give you additional protection.

I know plenty of people who budget like this for "pocket money"

Quite, I obviously pay my bills and standing orders etc through my bank account but I prefer to spend real money when i do my shopping at the actual shops.

It works for me. I am one of the only people I know that does not lay out extra money every month to pay for various forms of credit.

Your money; your choice ... however what would be the extra money you refer to. I use a combo of Apple Pay, debit and credit cards and pay nothing for the use of them??

If you play your cards right wink you can make money from them with cashback.

Exactly. I buy absolutely everything on my Tandem credit card and then clear it in full when due.

It's surprising how quickly that seemingly small 0.5% adds up.

And while that's happening, my salary spends the whole month untouched by day-to-day expenditure, sitting in my interest-bearing current account.

Nationwide. Flex Plus account pays 3% on first £2,500.

If you fancy switching, let me know. We both get a £100 bonus on their current offer!

Thanks, I'll look at that. Will certainly involve you if I switch.

That's for the UK/EU vehicle recovery, travel insurance etc. package.
