Out of interest, what does a home made, farm shop, artisan, gluten-free loaf cost?

Don't torture yourself over it unless you're a gluten for punishment.

Somebody has clearly made a bloomer (or 50) their end.

Just tell them you haven't placed an order, just received a quote from them. The current production is their issue.

Then tell them the revised quantity you need, day for collection and get a price. If they agree to accept your order, Robert is your mother's brother.

Should they not want your business, then you know what to do next. Buy baguettes in France.

Commitment of the order is going to need proving.

Sounds like the farm shop just wanted a slice of the action.

I'm guessing £2.50 a loaf.

I suspect the baker and the farm shop talked and it cropped up. The farm shop doesn't want to miss out on making some extra cash so they have both decided to tell you the order is already in.

Depends on you on how you want to proceed. You could either tell the baker the 50 loaves isn't for you and request your own 50 or phone the farm shop. If you go the first route I would want to be absolutely certain there hadn't been a breakdown in communication (could they have misinterpreted your enquiry as an order?).

This assumes you didn't place the order and have since found out you could have cut out the middle man.

Looks like the baker will be left in a loaf or death situation.

Grr, farm shops, the one near us had signs saying "Hot, Fresh Bacon Butties being made NOW", i had cycled 20 odd miles on an empty stomach and was nearly home so this was a welcome sign, there was another encouraging one about Pulled Pork so I ride in and park my bike, I go in and get asked what I want, just checking the menu "Cookers off" in a very abrupt tone, so I ventured that it says you are making Bacon Butties etc on the sign outside, to which he repeats "Cookers off", Yes we had ascertained that, but you should perhaps remove the sign that says "Hot, Fresh Bacon Butties", he says "Cooker goes off at two" so I say, "well perhaps bring the sign in at the same time ?" this was met with a slight glower.

Anyway, a fruitless exchange and a trifle rude on his part, he ventures "You could have a pie", "Are they hot", "No", "Can you warm it up", "No, cookers off"

So, said, "No thanks, wont be coming back" and stomped (probably flounced a bit as well), no pork product of any kind, still hungry and now annoyed

I'm guessing about 30 pence! Probably a lot less to manufacture as well.
