Has the Daily Express run its annual, ludicrous 'worst winter since records began' forecast story yet?!
I believe they have. But Nathan Rao has blocked me on twitter, so I don't get the updates any more wink
Cracked me up, that. hehe

They've gone with a quite balanced headline...

"UK faces MONTHS of SNOW: Sinking polar vortex to trigger COLDEST winter since GREAT FREEZE"

hehe

I wish the Daily Express would do a headline of "BRITAINS WARMEST WINTER IN 50 YEARS" - then we'd be guaranteed non-stop snow.

Hope everyone survived Storm Brian. We ended up with some leaves on the grass eek

Headed out to the Lizard on Saturday morning for a walk.

As promised, Brian was blowing a gale. It was edging towards low tide so the waves weren't right up against the cliffs but were still massive! Most impressive at Poldhu from the places we saw.

We also went to the point where the track down to the old lifeboat station was like a wind tunnel. Could barely hang on!

I happened to be in Kent for Storm Brian. There was some wind. Especially on the M2 bridge over the river Medway. Then unexpectedly the power went out at my friends house on Sunday. Took 5 hours for it to come back!

Interesting signs for Nov 1st, need to keep an eye on. Strong northerly blast, and associated increased risk of snow.

As always, it's a longgggg way out.

I'm off work that week so I'll pack my thermal pants.

There's a bucketload of snow coming to the Alps and Eastern Europe in the next week, so the UK may get a sprinkle.

Already have some here (picture from office window). Came across someone who had done a spectacular effort of going off the road when heading home but was thankfully they were ok.

Presumably though that's for Scotland, there's no way the south/south-east would get snow that early.

Haven't checked yet today - but that was pretty much for some snow anywhere (the SW got in on the action too!). Obviously with a northerly blast, Scotland does best.

GFS comtinues to show a pretty brutal Arctic incursion for the time of year. Still indicating southern snow on 2nd Nov.

NE Scotland will be ok as my winter wheels are going on this weekend. There's been hardly any snow up here since I bought the damn things but at least it means I can drive our crappy roads in the dark without worrying about damaging the alloys on a pothole that wasn't there that morning

And there it is! First disappointing downgrade of the winter season wink

Cold spell now likely to dig south to our East, and generally we'll miss out. Definitely cooler though, more 'seasonal'.

Funnily enough, I was thinking earlier this week that the Daily Express and their annual "APOCALYPTIC Winter! WORST since, oh, I don't know, EVER!" news (ahem) 'articles' were just about due...

I'm sure that the experienced meterolgical types on here will be well aware of this link, but I thought others might find it interesting (it's a year out of date, but still strangely accurate... unlike Madden, Rao and the Express).

So it's nearly November. It was 27c yesterday (81f), has been all week (seriously, Colorado, WTF, it's only a little warmer in Dubai), so I've not been following the forecast - until I saw a comment from a friend 'I can't believe it'll be be 50 degrees colder tomorrow'. Wait, what?
Logged on to the local news - afternoon snow, ~30f. This place does my brain in sometimes.

More snow Monday, then back up to mid 20c by Wednesday.

The days of cold British winters are long gone. Global warming has put an end to them. May get a sprinkle in London for a day in January, but that's about as bad as it will ever get now.

Sorry everyone, October is my fault.
I had a set of Michelin CrossClimate+ fitted to the car on the 2nd and I've been wearing T-shirts ever since :P
