Upgrades overnight.
Break out the sledges, find your thermals, panic buy bread, milk and gin - you might need tonic and limes too.
We're going in to the freezer, it will last quite a while, it will snow.
Some of the best charts in history, and they just are not watering down.
My prediction is for Kent to get absolutely wallopped at some point.
So much excitement! If it does snow I am bringing my sledge to you, lord Puggit. Break out the sledges, find your thermals, panic buy bread, milk and gin - you might need tonic and limes too.

Stupid high pressure! Looks like we will not get snow for another few weeks at least - easter could be a right off this year if we don't get any just after that!
Might have to fly to Scotland for skiing instead it seems,
Your (temporary) pain is our (temporary) gain. Might have to fly to Scotland for skiing instead it seems,
You'll get no sympathy from us snow-starved southerners!

I love living on a hill so I get more snow?
Glad you might at last get a bit of snow, I'm looking forward to seeing the news reports. What are the chances that the snow event will be more nationwide? Or becoming more nationwide if the cold hangs on for a few weeks?
In the Peak District we've had quite a high frequency of snow this year (most weeks since November have seen some wintry stuff) but not much lying snow (3 or 4 inches max). There's a part of me that doesn't want any snow and another part of me that wants an epic world ending amount like we occasionally get.
In 2009/2010 my brother (who drives JCBs for a living) got a contract to clear drifts off the Cat and Fiddle, he said it was like an archaeological dig, as you uncovered cars/vans etc from some of the bigger drifts. If we're going to have snow, I want that sort of snow, not the 2-4 inches of slush we've been getting every week.

How do you go about clearing that kind of drifts? I guess there's the potential for a lot of damage to anything buried under them, so who would pay the costs etc?RTB said:

To start with (ie Monday) the snow will be showers coming in from the North Sea, effecting the east coast and a little way inland. They will probably get stronger and further in.However, deep cold will cover the country, so any small low pressure features or troughs will bring widespread and disruptive snow. Much like 2010/2011 times. The charts are showing the easterly wind will be in an unstable air mass - so better odds for these features.
At this point, the charts are offering very little negative news, hence I'm going to poo-poo Schmalex's caution.

[quote=Yipper]This is where it has snowed in Europe for the past 3 days... and where it may snow in the next 6 days... Looking like <10cm to the east coasts of England...
As Puggit hints, some of the latest charts are indicating most of the UK will get absolutely walloped next week. Perhaps 20-30cm due around the Midlands...

They try to go round them and dig out a single track, but they must damage the odd car. Not sure, but I presume it's on the public liability insurance of the contracting company. This was taken near Longnor, not far from Buxton. Plenty to hide a car.....
