Very strange weather, no snow at the Depot but six miles away at home there’s a good inch or so of icy snow, no elevation difference in the flat lands of West Yorkshire

Very similar thing happened my way yesterday, all clear at the depot yet 3 miles away there was carnage!

Plus temps and sun for the next few days in this part of Canada , might bring the frost out of the highway which could be nasty but it'll be a nice reprieve from the minus stupids we've had recently .We'll take it .

The snow eventually came down quite hard yesterday evening. Plenty of abandoned cars this morning and a few "how on earth did they manage to do that" crunches. Quite a few schools around Bradford closed as the school buses aren't running.

Caused by heavy snow showers. Like April showers, but with snow. Hence the thunder a few had too. Very unstable airmass that was imported from the NW.

Any excitement about the future pretty much cancelled. Even the heralded big storm has been watered down to a powerful fart. At some points it was predicting 100mph winds inland wink

The normally highly accurate weather service we use (weather2) in Macc/Buxton for the High Peak commute has been almost completely wrong over the last 48 hours. With heavy snow predicted I awoke to broken blue skies, with mere smatterings of white on the hills.

The Buxton weather website is predicting potentially up to 20cm of snow over higher ground tonight (with appropriate caveats)...... Given that so far in the Peak District we've had about an inch of slush I'm not going to believe this until it happens.

My winter-tyre-equipped warm hatch made it to work before anyone else this morning. We're around 250m above sea level near the eastern end of the Woodhead Pass. Just left about an inch of snow behind at home in north-west Sheffield.

Had the thunder and lightning with the snow last night - couple of inches still this morning and it really looks like there's more to come. Normally I'd be happy enough as I can WFH. However tomorrow I can't as my car is due in for it's service at Mercedes in Leeds, near work. I like driving in snow (I've got my proper tyres for a start) but I won't drive in it unless essential as I am now worried sick that someone is going to run into me - I really don't want the insurance hassles if this happens. Why does it always snow at such inconvenient times?

We're nearly a hundred meters higher than that and we've got virtually no snow. We'll see if that continues tonight.....

Ayrshire was fun last night, went to the supermarket around 17:30 nothing on the ground, did a weeks shop while it sounded like armageddon on the metal structure, 20 minutes later walked out to a winter wonderland.

The main roads looked like white polished glass!

My 335i on winters wasn't as good as I thought it was, got stuck on some hills a couple of times, but managed to get going eventually. Think I'll change them to a better compund next year, they're poor in wet too.

My E class coupe on Toyo Snowproxes is not as good as I expected - previously I was using SLKs on Conti TS850Ps (or were they 830s?, whatever it was they were really good) and the OHs V70 AWD on Yoko W Drive. A couple of times I'm sure if I'd stopped on hills it wouldn't have got going - however last night I was still driving past a lot of stuck and weaving stuff so it must do better than it feels.

"Ice rain" (freezes when it lands on the ground) and some snow overnight meant following a bendy bus on country roads was tricky. Loads of black ice everywhere. I let the bus ascend the hill in front of me first, before I started uphill in my car. I didn't want the bus sliding down towards me on the black ice!

More snow expected over the next 3-4 days

We've got more than a foot near Stirling. Went to check on the Tiki Bar and Smoke Shack this morning. Looked magical in the snow with the lights on.

I sort of recognise the view, but can't quite place it?

It's Roper Lane which goes behind The Raggalds pub on the Brighouse to Denholme road. That's Halifax down to the left and Ogden Moor straight across. Top Withens and the windmills would be over to the right.
