The windy winter and occasional snow thread 2017/2018

I guess it depends on how often you see it. In my part of the world we get some disruptive snow most years and I don't find it in any way enjoyable. If I lived in Devon I would probably get very giddy about the prospect of a foot of snow.
We had that a few years ago on a couple of occasions. As I couldn't take the risk of not being able to get to work I had a couple of nights in a hotel and absolutely hated it. As I've retired I wouldn't need to do that again, but I can still live without itA.J.M said:
Does SSW mean 2010 levels of snow and those of us with proper 4x4s with appropriate tyres can mock the rest of humanity.
Or is it going to be yet more disappointment for all?
No. Or is it going to be yet more disappointment for all?
Once again it means 2010 levels of snow where those of you with proper 4x4s with appropriate tyres can get stuck in endless queues of traffic stuck behind crashed rwd BMWs and articulated lorries spinning their driven wheels on ice.

This time I don’t think I have that luxury.
Can stay at home and walk the dog I guess.

I never understand this argument. Where I live there are many alternative routes I can take. Sometimes I get home quicker when it snows than under normal conditions because everyone sticks to the main roads and the back roads and lanes are quiet. Scotland has seen 100 avalanches so far this Winter.
6 in the last 48 hours...https://www.sais.gov.uk/
Ha - the frost returns! Lots of water run-off last night from the saturated soil, hard overnight frost and bingo! 3 vehilces parked at unusual angles against trees etc off the roads this morning - the most all season.
Looks like the roads were not gritted, but the slushy ice was there most mornings but still catches people. Luckily no ambulances or other bad signs, just a few confused drivers anxiously waving at other road users. Quite why they chose to have a conflab on a bend by a car park entrance is anyone's guess - maybe it was just to test other road users reactions/patience?
Is there any more 'weather' being forecast for this month?

As Yipper has said, Scotland, especially the West Coast has seen brilliant levels of snow, basically since middle of December. Given current forcecast I don't think we'll be getting any melt soon. A few photod over the past couple of weeks:

Fantastic! I grew up just outside Drumnadrochit so seeing that takes me right back to my childhood! This was taken by Cairngorm Mountain on Wednesday:
Meanwhile, South of the M4, we’ve seen one day of very wet snowfall that barely covered the grass. We’re probably up to about 10 frosty mornings in total and the lowest temperature I’ve seen at home this winter has been -2c.
