Very strange situation. Normally we have a good series of charts and then small downgrades until eventually it all collapses and we're left with a cool whimper.

For the last 5 days we have seen charts you would bite your arm off for if you love cold and snow - and we get small upgrades each time.

There are currently charts that would result in red weather warnings in the far future - so not to be considered accurate at this time.

Some weather models are suggesting temps down to -10c and 10-40cm of snow this Sun to Weds, for the coldest and snowiest period in southern England since the 1980s.

Outside Scotland, though, the models usually disappoint beyond ~48hrs. So, don't get hopes too high...

Jesus, how cold would it be had winter not already ended biggrin

I am ambivalent, want some warmth now, was just out on the path wearing a T shirt and could feel the sun, marvelous.

I need to book a site visit in next week, one to Bridport (Dorset) and the other to Sandy (Hertfordshire), I'm in SW London.

Seems like I should hold fire for the moment.

Opinion is split on Twitter among the weather nerds.

Some think next week will bring snowmageddon and record low temperatures approaching -20c or -30c.

Others think it will bring bright sunshine for a week and -5c at best.

A Twitter poll last night had ~75% of voters saying the worst-case "Beast from the East" scenario will not happen.

The continent will definitely get some bad weather. The UK is 50-50 on whether it reaches across the Channel.

Let's see.

I'm pretty sure you have to add 8 degrees to those numbers for ground level temps.

Watch this Met office video to see the hammer effect of the cold. A real 'bam' moment on Sunday

@metoffice (Met Office)

Turning much colder next week with temperatures struggling during the daytime, bringing an increasing risk of snow ⛄

Can you imagine a red warning for snow?

Well I guess that would be pretty darn serious. I mean if a yellow warning resulted in 2-5mm, then a red would be at least 2-5cm.

Was listening to the DJ on Wave 105 an hour ago talking about the “sunny afternoon” and “Spring is on its way”.

I wonder if he will turn out to be right over the next couple of weeks... or will Puggit have a rare dose of deserved and accurate optimism wink

Yes Puggit old chum, I know it’s not an exact science, just pulling your leg

Some models are showing windchill of minus mid teens...
Jesus

I dont think I have ever experienced that even when snowboarding.
I'd suspect you have unless you are only snowboarding in May or something similar!

Remember wind chill is if you are standing naked out there, so any clothes mean it is 'warmer' than stated wind chill. I've survived going to the shop in shorts and a t-shirt in real -20c. That said, it was only 5 min walk and I did stay a bit long to try and warm up again. So doubt anyone will be out longer completely naked. The only thing i reckon could cope is Newcastle girls on a night out.

You lot clearly haven't been following Puggit threads long enough. With all this ramping, there's only one direction for things to go now...
