Don't trust the snow charts at this point - especially as I'm in the zero snow area wink

At present everywhere is forecast as cold/very cold and sunny, except for the East Coast.

This will change over time as features bringing snow become clear - within 2-3 days of snowfall. Where there is lying snow and clear skies, temps could become extremely cold overnight (temps extreme by UK standards).

...As Puggit hints, some of the latest charts are indicating most of the UK will get absolutely walloped next week. Perhaps 20-30cm due around the Midlands...
Have we really come to the point we consider 20-30cms a walloping? It's less than a foot isn't it? We've had around that 3/4 times so far this winter in High Peak and life barely notices. Must do better.

If the goes off any time before next Wednesday afternoon, I'm going to be very disappoint. I'm actually paying actual money to get myself onto some snow on Monday and Tuesday next week, which I can do just about any time, but if I lose the opportunity to watch the dogs careering around in deep fresh snow. and the joy of finding out whether my tested-once-a-year centre diff lock still works, I'll not be happy.

The forecasts seem a little confused on snowfall, but seem to agree on cold. For example, charts on here show no snow for us (central south coast) but local forecasts on netweather and accuweather show a flurry or two Tuesday / Wednesday, and the Beeb shows nothing until next Friday.

In reality, I don't expect much snow here as the house is on the waters edge and warmer due to the marine influence and low altitude (0.5m Max smile ). In 15 years I have only seen any significant snow in this area once. But it seems that heading north or east from here could be a little more interesting now and then from the coming weekend.

shout Snowfall will only be forecastable up to 72 hours before it falls. Semi-accurate totals only possible 24 hours before it falls.

To be fair, a foot of snow on the Cheshire plain would have a similar impact and would be considered a walloping. In 2009/10 and 2013 I was getting in from Buxton, while work colleagues who lived in Macc were "snowed in"

I'm getting a bit bored with the constant little bits of snow up here. I either want nothing or a lot. I want to drive over the Cat road and marvel at the sheer-sided drifts that are 2-3 times higher than the car rather than splashing through a couple of inches of slush.

Puggit, it's up to you now to deliver..... smile

Map below shows the current dewpoints - the white/grey area is zero or below. Anything that fell now (there's not really precipitation up there) would fall as snow. Probably for you too wink

The cold hasn't really arrived yet...

I love the snow, and I am so disappointed in the lack of it so far.

but saying that, we have 2 new members of staff who will start their on street training on Monday, so we will be out in it all day every day, I guess this means its time to double up the thermals.

I am not looking forward to this at all.

Are we talking water pipe bursting temps? Just had a new bath etc put in the house and don't want to be spending on burst pipes too.

Thanks. We usually have the heating on for only a few hours a day as don't feel the cold. Will crank it up next week then. smile

Our house is old and is hard to keep heated. smile
