This is where it has snowed in Europe for the past 3 days... and where it may snow in the next 6 days... Looking like <10cm to the east coasts of England...
As Puggit hints, some of the latest charts are indicating most of the UK will get absolutely walloped next week. Perhaps 20-30cm due around the Midlands...

Cold = yes.
Sunny = yes.
Snow = maybe.

My point is the Met Office does not possess any qualifications that enable it to pass health information on to the wider public.
Briefly, in very cold and dry air, those already suffering breathing difficulties can find it harder still to breathe, all other things being equal.My point is the Met Office does not possess any qualifications that enable it to pass health information on to the wider public.
Any major weather outlet doesn't need medical professionals to audit their press releases, when there is so much information, freely available, from reputable sources online. Nearly all of which, correlates positively.
It's a PSA. If you don't suffer breathing issues, aren't old, injured, and in rude health, feel free to ignore the advice. Those that are aware that cold dry air affects them adversely, they can pick up and take note.

+1Not that it's really a press release. The alert is part of the Cold Weather Plan, run jointly by NHS, Met Office and PHE. https://www.gov.uk/government/collections/cold-wea...
Who else but the Met office would you expect to issue those alerts?
More from Mr Dutton. Seems the predictions of snowmageddon for the south were somewhat excitable as things have moved north:
The first snow warnings have been issued by @metoffice for later Monday into Tuesday. As the snow will fall in the form of showers, amounts will be highly variable over short distances.
Areas with most frequent snow showers: 5-10cm
Areas with less frequent snow showers: 0-2cm

No need to warn about flooding in the future. Some people can swim, so flooding = no problems. And the Met Office is not qualified to know about people's swimming abilities so should not be making publications making reference to such things!
Absolutely, and thank you. The Environment Agency and .Gov are the bodies tasked with issuing flood warnings. So....
Even I, on the arse end of east anglia, may finally see some white fluffy stuff!
I was literally up early this morning (4am) with my wife checking the weather app....we're so excited....an opportunity to pull my kids in a sledge again is so exciting! It's been years!
My 12 year old at 5'4" will be a bit of a slug on the flat though ....

Forecast for next Thursday - green is snow.
That's the low pressure that's due to wallop southern UK (especially Devon/Cornwall) on Friday. Things will change between now and then, but the trend counts.It's white hatchings that equals snow
Looks a little marginal for the CIs Good to see our cottage in France is under rain, hopefully we won't have a repeat of 2010 when the pipes burst
