Heading up to Aviemore this weekend, am I likely to find some snow on lower ground?
Yep - but not huge amounts.

Tonight's GFS is absolutely spectacular. From Weds next week onwards is an utter snowfest. Charts don't get any better.

Hold on tight - we're at the top of the snowlercoaster... Can only go downhill from here...

Still too early to call. We'll know by the weekend.

We have a 'severe weather warning' here on the east coast. When you read it it warns of 'some slippery patches' and the possibility of a light dusting of snow. In winter? Who'd have thought it?
It's a yellow warning - which only means 'be aware'.

<sigh>

Well the charts have, of course, moved away from UK-wide snowmaggedon. Current forecast for next week is for Scotland to really get it. Cornwall to be tropical.

Typical British weather - why do I get so excited, even when every model was on board it still changes.

Met Office still predicting a cold spell next week, but it will be short lived in the South.

We've not had a 'weather bomb' for a while. Must be due, surely?
No deep low pressure systems in the forseeable future.

The synoptics remain very positive for deep cold, sadly it appears the deep cold will be held back by Hadrian's Wall this time. Plenty of reasons to remain positive for proper cold later on, when we actually get to Winter!

We NEVER get any snow in Doncaster. The microclimate in the pennine rainshadow makes it ~2 degrees warmer than the surrounding areas. I'm hoping for a long, cold Winter this year so we might finally get to use the sledge that's been sitting in the garage for years.

At least we're going to Lapland next month so that ought to be a bit snowy!
I call BS on this - I've seen a foot of snow at Doncaster Airport tongue out

Friend of mine lives outside Aberdeen, moved up from Reading. Looked at the available broadband - 1 Mbps. Looked at the price of satellite broadband. Happy with his 1 Mbps biggrin

The blue shades is air dragged down from the Arctic. The bullseye is a very deep area of low pressure. Very strong winds and precipitation.

Your money on the table for what? Snow in the NW of Scotland, or S of the M4 corridor? I’ll happily lay the latter...
Too early to call where it will snow. Pretty much nailed on for colder than the recent spell though.

Even the ever-conservative ECM model getting in on the act. Total snow accumulations for 10 days from today:

10 days from today?

I'm on standby from 00:00 tonight to 00:00 next Sunday/Monday and if its 10 days away I could have earned a whole lot of money had it landed earlier!
The cold is Thursday onwards. Friday afternoon and Sunday looking most likely at this point for snow, but this is always likely to change and within 24 hours is the only reliable snow forecast.
