Thanks for the link. In my generation there were loads of Pauls. in 2015 that name ranked #286 with just 169 Pauls being born.

I would think that most of these traditional names that you don't see as first names will still be used as middle names, mostly due to family significance, so just hidden away but still being used.

Have we had Florence yet?

Was walking through a graveyard the other day and every other grave was a Florence! Don't actually think I've ever met a Florence! (apart from my younger sister, but hey ho)

Its was quite upper class but is now filtering down ever since Florence + The Machine became really popular

My friends named their daughter Florence last year and although they protested at every opportunity they wouldn't....... She is already Flo..

My Mum's a Margaret and that name and it's variants should be up there..... Margy; Marge; Maggy etc....

I wish I'd thought of Vernon 12 years ago....... What a cool name.... Next Dog it is then........

I'm Phillip (With 2 L's) and i'm normally called Phill.

My son's at primary school and there are no Phill's/Phillips in his class (there was another chap at school with me called Phil). However among the Dad's there are 3 others called Phil/Phill.

We all went out drinking at Christmas and of the 8 of us out, 4 of us were called Phil/Phill and there was all two Gary's!
Same with Richard.
Richard and Phil(l)ip were very common names when I was at school, but I bet there haven't been many new ones in the last 30-40 years!
Indeed. I'm 34 so I expect it will take another 30 years to become popular again!

My oldest daughter (2) is Susannah Louise (named after my Grandma who was Louise Susannah) - I don't think she'll find many people with the same name!

It's not a real name, it's the pet name for a girl called Frances.

At least it was when I my grandfather was a lad.

EDIT: Although, according to Wikipedia, it's been a stand alone name for centuries. Live & learn, eh?
