Looking to change the front chainring on my Force CX1 bike to make the gearing a bit more suitable for the road.
It currently has a 40 tooth and I'd like to switch to a 48 tooth.

You can get the Force CX1 X-Sync chainring for £65, but also the X-Sync Road chainring for £57.
Both are the same narrow/wide teeth and BCD so will be compatible.

Other than the colour are there any other differences?

It's a good job we are all going 1x, the amount of trouble I've had running a front clanger over the last thirty five years...

I've been running 1x11 with the 10/42 cassette at the back and with a 42t on the front I've never felt like I've needed any more gears for riding on the road apart from possibly being able to squeeze out an extra couple of mph on the descents when we were in the Alps.
I've previously ran 1x with an 11/28 and a 50t up front which was pretty good but hard going when it got steep. You can often find brand new 50t rings on eBay that people have removed for about £30 or so, it's worth taking a look before paying full price for one.

Totally with you on this one, having just built a 22 speed CX bike and still running a triple on the road bike. I've yet to come across a situation where i think i should have had a different front ring or a bigger cassette. 1x really is a marketing mans dream. Far cheaper to produce and everyone thinks they need it!

Having a bigger range over 9 gears than I had with 18 gears is a hell of a lot nicer to ride when you're tubeshifting!

The first accessory I fitted to me 1x CX bike - cost a lot more than a front mech...

Ridiculous isn't it, does less, costs more.
