Yes, we lived not far from there. My dad used to buy RETREAD tyres. (since banned.)

Wasn’t a REAL Daytona though.

In my yoof , I need a new tyre for my Francis Barnett Plover M/C . Went to P&C and rode back home with a tyre over my sholder
Fitted it to my bike and went out for a trial ride which was a bit lumpy , turned out the tyre was slightly oval , get what you pay for !

Don't care - it's still the coolest car in the world.

Apparently Ferrari complained about the use of the car, which was a Corvette based kit car, and threatened to sue. By then the show was so popular that instead Ferrari agreed to supply a Testarossa.

Interestingly, for the more dangerous stunts there was a fake Testarossa too! Based on a DeTomaso Pantera, it's easily distinguished in certain episodes by its deeply dished wheels (and rather dodgy panel gaps).

Personally, I loved Crockett's powerboat! cool

That was such a good program.

I recall that one of his conclusions was that plastic buckets would be in short supply in the future.

Dad went out and bought two, just to be on the safe side.

It's on YouTube iirc. In the very first episode he walks into the WTC in NYC...tin foil time.

Last year I bought the book - good coffee table item and quite a good reference book.

Mention of the Great Egg Race - Prof. Heinz Wolff died only last month (he was only 60 when it first aired but looked much older?).

I was mildly surprised when I found out that James Burke's degree was in English languages. I suppose he dates from the time when that was the norm and scientists were of the ilk of Magnus Pyke, whereas today they can actually function in a civilised manner.

I believe it's true to say that neither Patrick Moore nor David Attenborough are qualified formally for their specialities. Enthusiastic amateurs AFAIK

Didn't know that.... either about the kit car or the Testarossa.

The show was impossibly cool at the time - the Phil Collins soundtrack definitely added a lustre too.

Didn't Phil Collins guest on one episode? If he did I think I recall he used the term 'wker' which the American producers didn't pick up on. Or maybe I was dozing through it and uttered the epithet upon seeing him on the tv. Again.

Yes, and his stage name was "Phil The Shill". Reading his book at the mo, says the acting, at that time, was getting in the way of his stage work.

I used to live in LA and hung out with all the Brit lads (Kings Head, Santa Monica!). We milked the wker label to the max with the Yanks at the time laugh A mate from the Old Kent Road had an RX7 with wkER as its number plate - eventually they got it so we stopped usng it as a welcome wink
