Haunted by a child? Thoughts?

It’s a reasonable suggestion but short of showing you images of the location on this instance it wouldn’t be the answer. I’m sure I have some pictures of the location on a hard drive somewhere - if I can I’ll pull them out.
Anyway - it was in the past - there’s no way anything can be proved/disproved so I’ll just put it down to one of those life’s quirks.

I'm a complete sceptic but would like to be in a position where I'm converted into a believer; I imagine it's quite an odd experience. The biggest mystery on this thread, in my opinion, is why anyone who's vocally "anti" enough to get cross at what complete strangers post about ghosts or fairies would keep coming back to the same thread about ghosts and fairies to get cross over and over again.
I've had two experiences that I'll share, make of them what you will.
Number one...
Many years ago, I was walking back from a pub, and I went my usual route through a graveyard at the top of a hill. It was late, but there are a few streetlamps etc so not zero visibility. As I walked through, a bit of movement caught my eye and I glanced over to see an elderly lady in the action of stooping over a grave, putting flowers on it. Except she vanished as soon as I looked at her... I stopped, and thought to myself "wtf just happened?" and headed over to the place where I saw her. There was no evidence of anyone being there and there were no flowers on the grave. There was, however, a big wheeled trolley (like the cages on wheels they have in supermarket warehouses) and it was filled with flowers, cellophane, ribbon etc. and parked partially in a bush directly in the line of sight that I had originally had. I then went back to my original viewpoint, and watched the area... sure enough, the faint movement of the almost invisible trolley of bits 'n pieces was directly where I'd "seen" the figure of the woman. My brain had made a really convincing image for me, but not an accurate one.
Number two...
I often sleepwalk, or get confused experiences in the stages between asleep and awake... always have. Again, years ago, I half woke up and was immediately confronted by a huge face looking at me. And I mean huge... not a normal face close up, a really big face kind of floating next to me. As I tried to make sense of it (whilst also feeling a rush of "wtf!!??" adrenaline I began to see it in more and more detail... I even remember thinking "Bloody hell! I often get weird sleep stuff but THIS IS REAL!"... What was bizarre is that this huge face with grey, pallid skin, was SO detailed, looking right back at me, I could see the pores in the skin, and the folds of grey flesh - it looked a bit like a giant "Hoggle" from the Labyrinth, but grey, greasy skin and a horrible sneer. Almost as soon as the details started getting, well, more detailed, it began to literally fade out in front of me, until I fully focused on the grey jacket that I'd thrown over a chair the night before. It was balled up but balanced oddly and was, as you might have guessed, vaguely face-like. Again, my brain had done things for me without being asked to.
It fascinates me how real things can seem when they are nothing more than tricks of the mind. And had I not found out the true story in these two cases above, I'd swear blind what I had seen was real, when clearly, it wasn't .

Really interesting stuff. It's amazing just how much of what we 'see' is filled in by the brain,I've had two experiences that I'll share, make of them what you will.

Absolutely. And I don't think I would have been able to be objective had I not "discovered" the trickery myself. I’m sure someone mentioned it earlier, but an example might be a human brain that thinks it sees a camouflaged leopard in a bush, will react as if it’s a leopard, in self defence... even if it’s actually just a bush that looks like it has a leopard behind it.
This is all a natural fear mechanism to protect ourselves.

Why did you search for the person? Why did you never speak about it again?
There was a person we both saw who vanished - we even checked the back seats of the car and boot before driving off. Neither of us were comfortable with what happened so wasn’t discussed again. She recounted the story to my dad a while later. And without me knowing I then told him at a different time - he said our accounts were both the same.
There is a very very very slight probability that it was a real living person, and they just disappeared.
Oor.
Aliens transported down from their spaceship, didn’t want you to see them up close, transported away ala Star Trek.
Oor, it was something that looked human, but was just smoke and mirrors.
Why jump straight to the ghost idea? Why not aliens?
a strange couple of instances in the last month or so.
Note: The thermostat dial concerned is manual only, not motorized in any way, and there is no smart timer/app involved.
1) I got in from the pub one evening on a hot day about a month ago, and settled down to watch TV. I became aware of it getting a bit warmer, and thought I could hear the combi boiler going. I went to investigate, and sure enough - the heating was on. The wall mounted thermostat had been turned from zero to about two thirds through its travel, when it's always on zero at this time of year of course.
I turned it down to zero again, and although puzzled, I though nothing else of it as I had had a couple of beers and maybe I had turned the heating on myself (that wouldn't have made any sense though due the weather at the time)? I had been to the pub though, so you do tend to question yourself I suppose.
2) Yesterday morning.
I was in the dining room sorting some paperwork out for work, when I heard the boiler fire up out of the blue (boiler is in the Utility, next to where I was standing). I thought it was odd as there was no need for it to be operational at all. Again I checked the thermostat and again it had been set to about two thirds through its travel. I felt the radiators and they were stone cold, which indicates that the dial had been turned that minute to activate the boiler from fresh.
Alone in the house both times.
It's a two year old Baxi boiler and remote thermostat if there are any gas fitters in who may know something I don't?
