how much would the minimum wage have been back then? even if those meals were £4-5 today it would still be good value. quality probably wouldn't be as good though.

Definitely nothing, assuming it has been wired correctly.

No different to opening up a wall socket and adding a small loop to the live, and to the neutral, and to the earth.

(Obviously switching off the power whilst you did so)
