Going back when eBay was relatively new, and before I ever used it, it was quite a regular thing - according to a friend who traded in antiques (that's what he said). 'Cleaned to eBay standards', which usually meant not at all.

I went to Japan as a teen on an exchange with the duke of Edinburgh’s award scheme and can confirm this to be true (or it was in the 90s)

A small number of us (us being hormone ravaged blue baller teens) may or may not have made a vending based purchase, purely for scientific reasons, of course, honest.
