They aren’t shoes that have too many positive associations though, are they. Historically worn by cads and bounders.

This seems like as good a place as any....

I found a jar of Jones' Traditional Dressing for Waxy and Matt Leathers in the cupboard. It reminded me that I used to own a pair of waxy leather chelsea boots. Hence ownership of the dressing.. Heaven knows what happened to them.

Anyway; I have several pairs of 'regular' leather chelsea boots. Is it possible to turn one of these into matt or waxy leather? If so, how? I know it's not just a case of smearing the dressingon them; presumably I need to remove the varnish or something?

After struggling with fit recently, returning/flogging some shoes, and doing some research, I have discovered I have been wearing the wrong size shoes for ever. I buy an 11, but it turns out this is because my feet are wide and my length is more like 9.5-10 in a wider fit/last, or 10.5-11 in a standard width. Anyway, a trip to Church's in Cheshire Oaks was productive today. Was a bit of a toss up between two shoes but after negotiating an additional 10% off if I bought both that's exactly what I did. over £900 worth of shoes for £480

Looks to be 4'' bullnosed, if I'm not mistaken; I hate it when people post up pics then leave you guessing about what's in themmad

Sounds like you did well with the price. I especially like the Weymouth.

How do you rate the quality of the Church's? How do they compare to the Tricker's that had recently for example?

Cheaney just emailed me to announce their new models for spring.

Anyone Alpha enough to get away with these?

I think there is a high risk of being beaten up or sodomised.

Really they’re spot on, the leather feels much nicer than Tricker’s, but Tricker’s are well known for stiff leather. Fit and finish is all very good, serious weight to the shoe, I struggle to see what could have been done better. Admittedly I have no experience with higher end stuff like Edward Green, but I prefer them to the Tricker’s.

I've cleaned my wife's Dubarry boots and used the Dubarry leather cream. But is has left white residue in the creases and they look rubbish. I have previously used a soft brush to get it out, but it polishes them - which is not the original appearance.

Any ideas chaps please?
