Note, Barker is not in Northampton town centre so you will need a car.

Cheaney also worth a visit.
Thanks, yes traveling 100 miles or so to get there.

Wasn't there a guide on here at some point? I've had a good look and googled it too but I can't see anything.
www.northamptonshoes.com will give you a list of the factory shops in the county with opening times and websites.
Thanks, I've seen this one and am already using it to plan my day. Think there was a detailed post on here not too long ago about it, discounts, range etc.

By sheer luck I dropped in to Barkers today with the added bonus of them having an additional 50% off ticket prices for Black Friday.

As a happy result these calf leather Chigwells are now mine for only £72.

I quite like Crockett & Jones Hallam Oxfords as they have a straight toe cap.

Can anyone recommend a similar shaped shoe made by someone else (ie cheaper!)
I've got a couple of pairs of Hallams. Russell and Bromley usually does something similar for a bit less.
I regularly pop into R&B, can’t see anything close to Hallam. I do wish someone would give R&B a run for their money, their shoes are OK for more than OK money!

I agree.

I have had a mixed relationship with R&B. I used to buy a lot of their shoes, and they've been pretty good quality, but recently I've looked at their prices and thought, "how much???". I have tended to pay a small amount extra and buy from a higher quality maker.

They’ve put prices up and most of the shoes are now made in Spain or Portugal and the same models were previously made in Italy.

Would still be interested in a square toe Oxford shoe, basically a copy of Hallam without the price tag.

I’ve seen some interesting ‘challenger’ brands online. Has anyone tried such brands? I will find some names and post them here or start a new thread.

The Loake Rothschild is similar. RRP £240.

This may be out of date so make a call before travelling if your planning a pre Christmas shoe splurge.

Also worth a visit is the outlet shoe shop in Olney (a beautiful town) near Northampton

They stock a lot of Loakes at half price.

Plus there’s an amazing Aston Martin car dealer 100 yards away to browse .

I'm thinking of getting a pair of Redwings. Before I do, any other brands I should consider? Also been looking at Wolverine 1000 Miles and maybe another pair of Tricker's (https://www.trickersoutlet.com/outlet/mens/stow-darkbbb-d.html).

No, but at that price point I would be buying Loake.

Bought these past week for winter use as my suede Church’s aren’t that practical

They look a lot like RM Williams but will be more comfortable I'd wager.

Have you looked at Loake Aldwych?

I've got a pair in mahogany and black and quite decent smart shoes at the price.
