Boots are £115 and shoes £100 and if you have a Jeffery West red tag as a regular customer that’s reduced to £100 and £80
Tell me more about the red tag??

The camera couldn't deal with the lighting and horrific colour clash. I'd say the sole is more of a "Dogs dick red" in reality. laugh
Sorry just seen this. If you buy about 10 pairs of shoes from their retail shops over a period of time you get a red tag that when you show it gets you discounts on shoes and repairs

Those are my very expensive handmade (not by me I hasten to add) jeans laugh

Thoughts on my new Red Wings? The other half thinks they're chavvy. (In before widespread criticism for asking my other half for a view!).
The question is, what are they for?

If they are for leisure wear I'd say no. They look like safety boots.

But if you're wearing them for work and they afford the necessary level of protection they look very good.

Workwear is the vibe I am going for.

Look fine if that's what you're after. Not sure what makes them chavvy? (they're not Reebok Classics)

Sawmills?

I've got my Roughnecks on today at work. I thought they would take ages to break in but it was surprisingly quick and pain free. The sizing of Redwings is weird though.

Yes. Trying to decide whether I prefer the moc toes to the rounder toe of an iron ranger etc. I got a good deal on these in the sales.

These seem comfortable round the house but I've heard the break in horror stories. No doubt will be less painful than my Trickers! laugh

In fairness, I need to sort my cuffs in that photo - they are too small and uneven.

the jeans look decent to me. Maybe not quite suited to the boot but not bad. Who thought up the name 'red wings' though... does that not mean something else....

ETA just seen the posts on this page saying they are in fact expensive jeans! I feel validated smile

They are these:

Still humming and hawwing re boots. Alternatives I am considering:

The last are on a leather sole though, and I don't want a leather sole. I also got £100 off the ones I bought (paid £203) whereas most of the above are around the £280-330 range.

vastly prefer the ones without the white soles. I am not a fan of white soles on shoes and boots (trainers ok), even though they are in fashion right now.

They were new to me in October and are wearing in nicely now. Special ordered RM Williams Tambos in Kangaroo Leather with leather sole.

Do you not find leather soles far too impractical for boots? I would only want them on shoes that I basically only wear in the office.

I prefer a dainite sole on boots. The pairs I have with leather are worn much less frequently than the others.

No, I specifically wanted leather soles as they should be for RM's. They don't get worn all the time as they would get destroyed at work but still once a week or so and I find them remarkably comfortable.

Should be comfortable for work and still bit a bit smart.
Yes. They look comfortable. No further comment
Smart they are not, comfortable and super light they are (/Yoda)

I’ve got a few pairs. I’m not massively into trainers so these get worn to the pub etc. hope they’ve still got a sale on as i really don’t think they’re worth full rrp.

Re: the boot condundrum I’m in a similar situation. I need a pair of boots for commuting to work on a motorbike, so need to robust enough in a light fall whilst being acceptable for the office (jeans/shirt type attire).

Problem being most biker boots look crap and the quality is even worse. Don’t want to spend too much as they’ll get scuffed and need replacing more often than usual, but still want comfort and style. Usual suspects (grenson, Sweeney and cheaney sales) have been a let down.

Thoughts?

If you are willing to spend c £300, some Red Wings might fit the bill :

Quality should be such that they will last - designed to be hard working boots.

Was hoping 200 max in the sales. 300 fine in the theory as they’re still superior in fit and quality to similar look bike brands but still similar protection. A bike version of that just has an extra patch across the toe for the rear sets.

I am more country ponce than cafe racer though. Was thinking maybe a brogue or derby boot in grained leather with commando sole would be hard wearing, would consider shearling lined for the extra padding but wonder if my feet would sweat during the day.
