Looks like fancy selvedge denim to me.
In fairness, I need to sort my cuffs in that photo - they are too small and uneven.
Graceful of you to highlight the 'deficiencies', but I nonetheless stand corrected at the quality of the jeans. Finding nothing to sneer at in the carpet department in your original pic I went for the easy gag on what else was visible, but in the process merely highlighted my taste for dad-jeans with an elasticated waist. Apols.

Slightly out of budget but norton and Jeffrey west have done a collaboration on biker boots that still look smart.

A quick question for the panel please.....

We have just bought a pair of ladies Barker Sabrina brogue chelsea boots from a well known, established country attire shop - they have arrived and measure a fair bit smaller than a pair we already have in the same style but they just don't seem right. The sizing is smaller despite being half a size larger, the stitching around the sole is very untidy and there is a small cut away on the heel. I have checked some of my Barkers and they don't have this but a pair of seconds Barkers and a pair of seconds Loake both have this 'cutaway'.

Have we been sold seconds? I will email Barker and ask them (and provide pics on here when I can) does anybody know for sure this is the way they identify a second? We have paid more or less full retail price for them.

thanks

Decided to return the Red Wings. Concerned that too much of a workwear vibe will make me look like I am off to lay roads. Back to the search.

I did briefly consider William Lennon (https://www.rufflander.co.uk/shop/heritage-footwear/town-and-country-boots/78tc-traditional-work-boot/) which are very competitively priced and are meant to be properly solid and fully customisable (down to being able to tell them exactly which leather you want them to buy in and use!), but a 10-12 week waiting time, reports of varying QC (ie they are work boots and don't have the attention to detail of the Northampton makers when it comes to tidiness of the stitching, evenness of colour across the boot etc.) and an inability to return them has put me off.

Yes, this is what it is. The only reason I ask is that the only shoes I have them on myself are both seconds, none of the 'firsts' I have don't have them on regardless of style. These are womens boots and measure smaller than a pair in the same style/same last as far as I can see that are half a size larger - the other pair doesn't have the corner either.

It just seemed strange to me and I was going 2+2.

Re: biker boots.

I don’t like the trickers as they wouldn’t pair well with work attire. The Jeffrey west ones are closer but blimey they are expensive!

Just been browsing the sales, fair few pairs of grenson with commando sole down to 120-130 which would be acceptable if they lasted the year my dainese were that money and wore through before I’d passed my test.

Guess it’s either cheaper and often, big money and care, or those stupid leather toe protector hipster cafe racer things

I am taking a punt on these:

https://www.herringshoes.co.uk/herring/cairngorm_r...

They had a half price pair in my size as they were customer returns. I am not sure how much I like the buckle, but it is free returns (after paying £13 to return my Red Wings!!! Bloody Royal Mail/Parcelforce), so they are worth trying on. I like the overall shape and the waxy khaki colour is interesting and a bit different.

They give the appearance of being quite worn out even before you've got them.

Surely there must be a Big Issue seller near you that would swap his footwear for the price of a couple of grams of smack? You'll achieve the same effect and save on postage.

Herring shoes jean choices are always appalling.

I do like this thread. No matter what one buys, it will be insulted.

Bought some

Dune "Character" Brown Leather Chelsea boots.

Perfectly comfy, but I don't like em. Too bulky for my tastes. Feel a little bit like Wellies as they are SO roomy in the toe box and taller. biggrin

Here they are next to my Dune Grey suede Chelsea boots. That's the sort of shape and profile I thought the pics on the website showed, but I guess they may have been a smaller size. They're going back to Dune this week. Completely unworn outside of 1 minute!

What is the name for the style of narrower, less tall toe box? Googling for "narrow" just ends up with narrow fit, but I have normal width feet so that's not the answer I require. I think also visually the edge of the sole with the stitching gives them a bulk I don't like, so I need a "non stitched" version

Open to suggestions around the £90-120mark (These were £115) Dark brown Leather.

I'm not sure they have a name, but I would be looking at more fashion forward brands for a narrower profile.
